Colors of Seabrook by Kay Wyne

Colors of Seabrook
6" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Painting in plein air on the beach is a great experience.  Last year John and I were at Seabrook Island outside of Charleston and I had the opportunity to beach-it daily.  This small panel is in the studio, and I hope to paint a large canvas with this as guide on the color palette.  I put my brushes away for this painting, and used a palette knife.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact ME for more info on my paintings. The Many by Kay Wyne

The Many
48" x 60" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
I was in the mood for some great colors and big shapes when I started with this canvas.  I pulled out lots of my transparent to start this canvas, toning it with cad red and cad orange to get ride of the blank white canvas staring at me.  I took a large filbert and drew all over, creating lines and shapes.  I wanted to create an image that was happy, harmonious in color, and allowed the viewer to be pulled in and interested in what I put on the canvas.  Interesting comments have come to me...some viewers see horse races, a crowd of people at a football game or a floral landscape.

"The Many" is a great title for this piece, as it allows the viewer to decide for themselves exactly what they see.  Thanks to Jake Small for naming this canvas!!!  Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Thanks, KMW

Wheat Fields by Kay Wyne

Wheat Fields
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Landscape
Big fluffy clouds moving across the wide open sky, and a colorful field of wheat make this painting a very pleasant one to view.  The eye moves across the field, back to the horizon line and then up to cloud formations.  You get a sense of the depth of the field, and the big sky.  This painting is finished, with the sides of the gallery wrap canvas painted.  Framing is optional, but "Wheat Fields" is ready for a new home.  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks for looking...have an artful day.  KMW

On My Easel....by Kay Wyne

Starting with a 48" x 60" canvas, I was needing to get rid of the white.
I started with a toned canvas, then started drawing with paint and a filbert.
I don't have a plan, I am just painting.
More on this canvas later in the week....Today is Thanksgiving, and I hope you are enjoying the holiday with friends and family.
Happy Thanksgiving!  Kay

Go Fish by Kay Wyne

Go Fish
12" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Starting with a base coat of Cadmium Red Deep, I covered the canvas to cover up the white canvas.  Then I took some charcoal and drew large shapes, and pulled out my palette knife.  I started finding shapes and the shapes turned into fish.  There are about a dozen fish in this painting, some are easy to see, others are hidden and implied shapes of fish.  This fun and whimsical painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay with any questions/comments.  Have a great day.....Kay

Color My World by Kay Wyne -sold

Color My World
Sold
14" x 10" Oil on Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting is sold, but it is one of my favorites.  It has a home in San Francisco, and is very handsome all framed up.  The colors pull your eye into the painting as the flowers in the field lead you into the canvas.  The flowers in the foreground are heavy with texture and were applied with the palette knife.  Thanks for looking at my blog...questions or comments, please contact Kay.  Thanks, KMW

Random Ideas by Kay Wyne

Random Ideas
40" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
Layers and layers of color, lines and shapes make this canvas interesting and full of random ideas.  I haven't decided which way I prefer to view the painting, so I deliberately put off signing the canvas.  Turning it on it's side and mixing it up works for me.  Here it is turned, and when it is viewed like the image below, I see a vase and flowers.
I used oil bars, oil paints, charcoal, wide brushes, small brushes, palette knives and rubber clay wedges to create "Random Ideas".  It is a very loose abstract with shapes that become images and colors that are pleasant to the eye.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting or any other pieces of art posted on this blog.  Thanks for looking, Kay

Reflections by Kay Wyne

Reflections
Commission - Sold
36" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This commission is has been framed up and is hanging in a Texas church!  The harbor, lighthouse and sailboats all were requested by the designer to be a part of this painting.  Painting the reflections in gave the water interest and movement.  I used a palette knife, a plastic wedge, and some wide, flat brushes to apply the paint.  I can't wait to see this painting in it's new home!  Thanks for looking at my art, and feel free to contact me with any questions concerning commissions.  Have an artful day, Kay

Windy December by Kay Wyne

Windy December - Plein Air
8" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Landscape of White Rock Lake
This was a memorable but cold and windy day at the lake.  I was with a group of artists painting.  The wind was the biggest challenge of the day.  I had to paint fast.  I started with a brush, but ended up scraping the panel and staring all over with the palette knife.  This painting is hanging in my house and I have to smile when I look at it...the painting experience was one that I will not forget!  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

Arizona Sky by Kay Wyne

Arizona Sky
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Landscape Painting
After a trip to Mt. Lemmon outside of Tucson, I immediately painted this small panel.  The scenery was amazing, as we took the winding road high above Tucson.  Here's my first painting of a saguaro cactus.  My plan is to paint this scene on a large canvas in these studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact Kay for more info on her paintings.  KMW

Desert Colors by Kay Wyne

Desert Colors
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Abstract Cacti
Inspired by the desert colors of Arizona, I painted this small panel while John and I were in Tucson last month.  We explored the mountains and desert, and I painted this small panel while we were out there.  I purposely left out the details of the prickly pears...and wanted to focus more on the colors and big shapes of the desert.  I would like to take this small study and paint a very large canvas based on it...maybe a 40" x 40" or 48" x 36".  I hope to start some new paintings in the studio today.  Thank you for looking at this blog---contact Kay with any questions.  Have a great day.  KMW

Abstract Nursery Project

Contemporary Abstract Nursery Paintings
Acrylic on Sixteen Cotton Panels
NFS
This is my nursery project for our grandson.  I started with sixteen 6" x 6" RayMar Cotton Panels, painted the background white and slowly started painting shapes with the colors my daughter picked out.  She requested that the images be nonrepresentational with a certain color palette.  As I worked on the small surfaces, I kept adding and working the paint, until I felt like it was complete.  That happened three times.  I normally paint in oils, so working with the fast drying acrylics was a challenge.  I picked a simple white frame for each panel, and here is the result. I wanted a very clean but colorful presentation for the wall.

This was a fun project, and would work well on a larger scale.  Thanks for looking at my blog...have a great day.  Kay Wyne
