This small painting is loose, colorful and playful.

Thick paint was applied with a filbert --- you can

see globs of oil and the paint oozing onto the

canvas.  I had originally painted a rooster who

was stiff, and looked like a statue, so I totally

repainted him and had fun doing so.

It's been a while since I painted some roosters...and I could not resist when my friend, Liz sent me pics of Rootie and Bagel.  These fine feathered creatures live on Morgan View Farm in Macon, Georgia.  (Thank you, Renee for letting me paint your roosters!)  I painted this small panel quickly, wanting to get the shapes and colors in. The shadows in the photograph were great, making the composition interesting. Here is a pic of my easel set-up in the studio while I was working.

I am in the studio these days working on a commission, and took a break to paint this fun rooster.  It's 2017 --- The Year of the Rooster.  This is my first rooster to paint this year, so I named it "First Rooster".  Using a large filbert brush, I scrubbed over an old painting, so there are colors peaking through.  I did not go into any details with this colorful rooster---I used generous amounts of straight paint (no medium) so some of the brush marks are thick, others are thin.  This painterly rooster is drying in the studio, but will be looking for a new home!  Contact Kay Wyne for more info.  Thanks for looking...KMW

Here's another small rooster!  He was so much fun to paint.  This little panel didn't photograph very well...the refection dulls the colors and shows the brush strokes, distorting the true color of the rooster.  Painted on a warm grey background, the reds, golden ochres and violets pop on this little rooster.  It is framed up and hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay Wyne

This painting, "Georgie Boy" was the product of a painting demonstration for a group of women at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.  George is the mascot at our local Gecko Hardware Store.  George came to the gallery and modeled for me, took a look around the gallery and entertained us all.  Here is a pic of the painting demonstration.
