Happy Happy

Happy Happy
8" x 8" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Using a limited palette, I mixed my colors for this quick floral.
It was a good exercise, and I am going to paint with three colors and white for a while.  I was playing around with the possibilities.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Pecan Leaves

Pecan Leaves
9" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
I have a studio mate who might share a photo or drawing or idea with me, and we both paint in our own styles.  Last week she brought a pecan leaf, and I had fun abstracting it and using a different color palette. First I started with a toned canvas.  I think it was Cad Orange.  Then I drew some big shapes with a willow charcoal stick.  I limited myself to three greens for the leaves, and simplified the viens that were running through the leaves.  Here's my finished product...it is always fun to see how others interpret and see things differently - that's why I like paint challenges.  Thanks for looking.....Kay

Ruffled

Ruffled
16" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral
As I was thumbing through my reference photos, I found a great shot of a bearded iris.  It is such a beautiful and complicated flower, with ruffled and lacey petals that are layered.  It was fun to paint, even though the iris is so much more beautiful in person.  This painting is custom framed, and at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, and this painting is available for purchase.  Thanks for looking at my blog, Kay

Flamboyant

Flamboyant
24" x 36" Oil and Charcoal on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
This abstract started out as a floral, and morphed into something else.  I had a very good time working on it, using lots of thick juicy oils.  At the end I wanted some calligraphy and some smaller strokes, so I used a willow charcoal stick and a small tool made for ceramics.  I like the movement and the color palette on this canvas...it's happy and fun!  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay for more info on the art posted here.  Thanks, Kay
