Wilted

Wilted
16" x 8" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Floral
There's something beautiful about a wilted, lonely sunflower needing some attention.  I used my palette knife and brush to give the viewer my impression of the potted plant.  Thanks for looking....Kay

Don't Forget

Don't Forget
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I almost forgot this small still life...After traveling and recovering from surgery, I have been out of pocket for almost two months.  These sunflowers were painted in the studio earlier this year.  I used generous amounts of paint, so I knew it needed plenty of time to dry.  It's dry, varnished and ready to get framed up!  This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks, KMW

Sunflower

Sunflower
10" x 10" x 3/4" Oil and Silver Leaf on Cradleboard
Contemporary Floral
Oil on top of the silver leaf is not easy to apply, and it takes time as layers and layers work best.  Once the oil in sitting on top of the silver leaf, it needs to set-up before the next layer is applied.  I like the look of the leafing and the imperfections that the sheets of silver leaf have. You can see the black base coat of paint peeking through in some areas.  I varnished this piece, it is drying in the studio.  Please contact Kay with any comments or questions.  Framing is optional...can be hung as is.  This piece is available for purchase.  Thanks, KMW

Wilted

Wilted
8" x 8" x 2" Oil and Silver Leaf on Cradleboard
Contemporary Floral
After a recent trip to Santa Fe, I was inspired to paint the beautiful sunflowers...and this one had already peaked.  But it was still beautiful with it's various shades of ochre and green, and it's unusual shape.  I had to apply numerous layers on the silver leaf...this painting is drying in the studio, and is looking for a home.  Since it is painted on cradleboard, framing is optional.  Thanks for looking at my art.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  KMW

On my easel...

Sitting on my easel this week is a 16" x 12" RayMar Panel with a photo reference of Santa Fe sunflowers. I have thick paint on the panel, so I am allowing it to set-up before I start putting in the lavender and more leaves.  Avoiding mud!  Thanks for looking at my art.  Kay

Turning Heads

Turning Heads
20" x 16" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Floral
I was in the studio looking for something to paint, as I didn't have any fresh flowers.  I came across a photo that studio mate Selena had passed along to me.  It was a great photo of a sunflower garden.  So that's how this one started, and ended up with this title when studio mate Sharon told me it the blooms in the foreground look like they are turning their heads.  I agreed, and then named this one "Turning Heads".  Sunflowers are so interesting, irregular and exciting to paint.  This painting is available for purchase, and it is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  KMW

Let The Sun Shine In

Let The Sun Shine In
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
sold
This painting was so much fun to paint...and in one session, alla prima.  I wish all of my painting experiences were fun and successful!  Yesterday's time in the studio was a disaster, as I painted for four hours on a canvas, wiped it, and painted it again.  It was so bad that I wiped it again, and hope to start something totally different today.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Peek A Boo

Peek A Boo
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral
What do you do when you get a new toy?  You play with it!!!  I got some new printer's rollers this week...in three different sizes.  I started spreading thin layers of paint with the rollers, and ended up with a globby mess.  Or so I thought.  I let the paint sit for a couple of days, and then looked for shapes, and I found sunflowers growing in tall grass.  Here's my finished painting, "Peek A Boo"!!!! This painting is available for purchase, and is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Sunflower Power

Sunflower Power
8" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
As I was playing around with the beautiful sunflowers I purchased from T.J., my eye zoomed in and I did a quick 90 minute painting.  When I paint quickly without any fussiness, my paintings are loose and free.  "Sunflower Power" is a good example of that.  These five flowers were so much fun to paint!  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Have an artful day.  Kay

Heavy Dose of Sunshine

Heavy Dose of Sunshine
12" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Floral Still Life...currently on my easel.
I have been working on this still life off and on in the studio.  I wanted to paint something just for the sake of painting...and I went back to using a full palette of paints.  I had missed painting with Indian Yellow, Olive, and Ice Blue.  So I painted a handful of sunflowers in a ceramic vase.  This painting is drying in the studio, and is looking for a new home.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

Let The Sun Shine In

Let The Sun Shine In
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I have been painting small still life panels.  I wanted to capture the light hitting the pot, and the irregular sunflower petals and leaves.  It was fun and great to be able to start and finish a painting in a short amount of time.  This painting is dry and ready for a new home!  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay
