New Small Series: Itty Bitty #1

Itty Bitty #1
3" x 3" Oil on Cradle Board
Small Floral
It's a mini blue vase filled with flowers on a very teeny weeny surface.  It would of been easier for me to paint this on a 3 foot by 3 foot canvas.  I had an idea about a year ago for these small multi-media boards.  I purchased over 100 of them, so I have more Itty Bitty paintings to do!  The paint was applied with a small filbert, and I ended up pushing the paint around with a wipe-out tool.  It is drying in the studio....will post more of these fun little ones.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact Kay Wyne for more info.  KMW

Hideaway

Hideaway
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Nest Series
Layers and layers of paint are woven into this nest.  I really enjoyed painting on this canvas with the wide range of transparent oils, then the opaques.  The earthy colors are harmonious and compliment each other.  This painting is ready for a new home!  Contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

Let The Sun Shine In

Let The Sun Shine In
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
Ready for a new home, this original oil painting has a lot going on.  Variations of color, shapes and lines make this abstract painting unique.  I couldn't duplicate this one if I wanted to.  I started out by tinting the canvas with some transparent colors, and then using a large filbert brush,  scrubbing in shapes.  I pulled out a small filbert once the first three layers were dry to the touch and painted lines to connect and overlap, pulling the painting together.  This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks, KMW

Flashy

Flashy
4" x 4" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Floral Abstract
4" x 4" is teeny tiny!  I applied the paint in thick globs without using an medium to thin the paint down.  I had to simplify my composition and make every stroke count with this size canvas.  This painting has the 1/2" sides of the canvas painted the deep charcoal grey that you see in the pic above, with my signature on this side.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting or any other painting posted on my blog.  Have an artful day....KMW

Dallas Days

Dallas Days
36" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Cityscape
Inspired by a plein air experience at White Rock Lake, I decided that I would go with a large canvas --- 36" x 48" in the studio.  The subject matter was the same, with the Dallas skyline in the background, White Rock Lake and the tall grass on the hill in the foreground. Wide brushstrokes and palette knife work were used to create this cityscape.  Currently it is hanging at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  KMW

Maid-Rite Memories

Maid-Rite Memories
20" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Oil Painting
Maid-Rite is midwestern burger joint...and there once was a Maid-Rite on the main street in my hometown of Macomb, Illinois.  Several years ago John and I were visiting Macomb, and I took photos of the old building.  It was in bad shape, with broken glass, pealing paint, holes in the roof --- and has been demolished.  It had a lot of character, and everyone who has ever eaten at the Maid-Rite has those memories.  Since we will be returning to Macomb this summer, I thought painting the iconic Maid-Rite establishment was appropriate!  I wanted to capture the hometown feel of walking down Jackson Street looking up at the EAT sign.  This original oil painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting!  Have an artful day...KMW

Signs of Summer

Signs of Summer
16" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Seascape
I had a panel that I was ready to trash, and decided to turn the panel upside down and start something new.  No more boats on this painting!  I had lots of lavenders, greys, and flesh tones on my palette, so I decided I would paint the beach.  The seagrass (thinking of Seabrook Island) is shooting out of the sand---I wish I had used some impasto on the grass, as it will take a long time for the globs of paint to dry. Thanks for looking at my blog...I hope that you can feel the sand between your toes when you see this painting.  Thanks, KMW

Opposites Attract

Opposites Attract
8" x 8" oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Still Life
How many times have we heard that saying, "Opposites attract to one another"?  OMG.  Many times.  That is what was happening here on the canvas for me.  Unexpected colors, lines and shapes all seemed to be opposites.  Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.  This fun and whimsical abstract evolved after several days of pushing the paint out of the tubes and paint in the stick.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at my blog...KMW

Peonies, Fruit and Fabric

Peonies, Fruit and Fabric
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This colorful still life is framed in a beautiful gold frame.  When I painted this, I was focusing on the light source and wanted to get the dramatic shadows painted in.  My favorite part of the painting is the fruit and the edges of the petals on the peonies.  I was letting my brush dance around, giving the petals a playful, loose look.  The apples were painted in simple strokes, with a wide bright brush.  This painting is available...contact Kay for more info.  Have a great day...KMW
