Palette Knife Landscape by Kay Wyne

Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I painted this landscape this week, and I am trying to decide if I am finished or not. My intent was for the eye to wander across the canvas back to the horizon line. I may add some more color to the sky and the foreground, but for the most part it is completed. I struggled big time with another painting on my easel...and ended up with a critique from my studio partners. Frustration set in and I started wiping and scraping the paint. I don't know if I can look at that painting today, so I may pull out a new canvas and get a fresh start on the same subject matter. Thanks for viewing...stay cool. Bold Day by Kay Wyne

Bold Day
48" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Original Contemporary Landscape Painting
This painting is a contemporary palette knife painting, on a gallery wrap canvas. It does not need a frame....ready to hang. Thick layers of paint create texture and contrast in this landscape. I applied the paint quickly, not fussing over the paint, or changing anything once the stroke was made. As I was working, I felt like I was frosting a cake with a big spatula, allowing the paint to ooze all over. Thanks for viewing this blog...contact Kay if you would like to purchase any of the art on this blog. kay@kwyne.com

Dragonfly Abstract by Kay Wyne

Dragonfly Abstract
28" x 22" Mixed Media on Linen Gallery Wrap
Original Contemporary Painting
Painted on natural gessoed linen, I used oil, crayon, and ink on this mixed media piece. The vibrant colors pop off the raw and natural color of the linen. The ink was fun to work with because it dried instantly, a change from the oils. Once I started using the ink, I realized that I had a stained glass effect on the dragonfly. If you are interested in purchasing this painting, please contact me at kay@kwyne.com for more information. Thanks for viewing this blog! Kay

Interupted Dreams by Kay Wyne

Interupted Dreams
Contemporary Abstract
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
This contemporary abstract began with shapes and lines, and the dragonfly image came midway through the painting. I wanted the background to be soft very soothing to the viewer, with the shapes bold and colorful, floating on the canvas. This painting is drying at the studio. Thanks for looking at this blog. Kay

Dragonfly On The Rise by Kay Wyne

Dragonfly On The Rise
30" x 24" Mixed Media on Linen Gallery Wrap
Contemporary Abstract
Oil, Ink. Oil Bars and Water-soluable Crayons

I had some fun with the painting...branching out and using some other materials along with the oil paints. I started with a few shapes and the image of the dragonfly, and kept adding and adding as I worked on it. There is alot of negative space, which gives the eye a rest from all the of the colors, lines and shapes in this abstract. The natural raw linen is beautiful in color and texture, so I did not want to totally cover it up in paints. This painting is drying at the studio, please contact me if you are interested in this painting. Thanks for looking at my blog. Kay

On my easel....by Kay Wyne

Contemporary Landscape
Palette Knife Painting
48" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I had the opportunity to work on this painting yesterday, toning the blue skies down. The were way to blue, so I grayed them down, and started to put some puffy clouds in with some shapes. I hope to make alot of progress on this painting today. Thanks for stopping by this blog and looking. Have an artful day....Kay

Rodeo Cowboy

Rodeo Cowboy
Sold
I was revisiting my reference photo for this painting yesterday. I really enjoyed painting this piece a couple of years ago. I may start another one on a large canvas for an exhibit. I have about a dozen paintings that need finishing touches, so I have plenty of work to do. I hope to post a new painting tomorrow and the progress on the landscape that I had demonstrated on Saturday. Thanks for viewing, Kay

Contemporary Aspen Painting

Contemporary Aspen Painting - Untitled
I have been working on this painting for two months, and every time I think I am finished, I put another stroke of paint on it. I signed it, and it is drying.
This is the painting that I worked on at Dutch Art Gallery on Saturday for the demonstration. The mountains have layers and layers of thick paint, giving it texture and depth. I started to work on the foreground, but had to do some wiping. I will probably tone down the sky with some purple and gray. I had a plan in my mind when I started this painting, but after putting in the background, I have changed the game plan. Thanks for viewing my blog and looking at the art posted. I hope to have more tomorrow...Thanks, Kay

Let's Walk Together - SOLD!

Let's Walk Together
This painting sold last week at the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas. Thanks to Pam Massar for making the sale. Yesterday while I was doing a demonstration at Dutch Art, I had the opportunity to meet Lisa (purchaser) and Cindy (received the painting as a gift) and Cheryl (friend). It is always fun to visit with collectors and know that your painting has a good home.
Here is the beginnings of a new painting, the 48" x 48" canvas that I worked on for the demonstration. I put the mountains in with the palette knife and worked on the sky. I will post more tomorrow on the progress of this painting. Thanks for viewing my blog. Kay

Abstract - Untitled

Untitled Contemporary Abstract
This abstract has been a work in progress for a while.
I applied layers and layers of oil color, giving it depth.
When I started this painting, I had thought that I would limit my palette to warm reds and oranges. But later on I decided a neutral color of charcoal gray would balance it out. I am thinking on the title.....thanks for viewing my blog. Have an artful day. Kay at kay@kwyne.com

Twisted- Sold

Twisted
This contemporary abstract painting has been shipped to Washington, D.C. where it has a new home! The lovely couple wanted a painting with pinks! The pinks, oranges and reds really warm this painting up. I used a palette knife to apply the paint. I have been working on some new paintings, all works in progress. I need to put final touches on them, sign them and photograph at the studio today. I will be painting at Dutch Art Gallery tomorrow, doing a demonstration. Please stop by to say hello if you are in the neighborhood. Have a great day...Kay
