Overflow

Overflow
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I painted this still life in the studio, and it is varnished and drying.  I wanted to focus on the lavenders and greens, with punches of turquoise.  I decided I like the turquoise, and worked it into the background.

Flower

Flower
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Still Life
Day #11 of the 31-Day Strada Easel Challenge
I received a beautiful book, "Flower" from one of my studio mates.  It is right up my alley, with amazing photographs of floral art.  I thought I would incorporate it with a vase of blooms for today's challenge painting.  The hydrangeas from Christmas are still full and beautiful, so I am using them again, although they are changing in color.  One thing I discovered is that I do not have the patience for small lettering.  I would never make it as a sign painter!  I like to paint loose, so lettering is just too tight for me.
Here's my set-up in the studio.  Thanks for looking...contact ME for more info.  KMW

Sunflowers, Up North

Sunflowers, Up North
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Landscape
Photo Reference Credit:  Susan Warner

The reference photo that I used for this small painting was one that Susan Warner took on a walk in the country, close to Charlevoix, Michigan.  Here is her fabulous photograph:

Of course it struck a cord with me since we were unable to make our annual trip Up North.  Susan graciously let me paint from her photograph.  It was fun, and my intent was to capture the beautiful warm indian yellows and ochres in the sunflowers.  I think I am going to let the painting sit on my easel for a few days, and maybe make a couple of small adjustments, but I can't do that now since it is very wet.  Thanks for looking at my blog, Kay

Floral Majesty

Floral Majesty
Thanks to LB, one of my collectors and blog readers for the suggestion on the name for this 12" x 12" oil painting.  Putting a title to each painting is part of the process, and it doesn't always come easy.  Thanks for the help, LB!

Flags at Fairmont

Flags at Fairmont
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Oil Painting
Reference Photo Credit:  John Gruenig
Yesterday was a windy day in Dallas, and I wanted to paint something different, so I pulled out a photograph that John Gruenig took of The Fairmont in San Francisco.  I didn't want to get into the details of the architecture of this beautiful building, but wanted to capture the colors of the day and highlight the flags whipping in the wind.  I decided to give myself 90 minutes, start to finish.  Thank you John for the use of the photo!  Contact Kay for more info.

Pretty In Pink

Pretty In Pink
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
This is a sweet little tulip painting that I painted in a workshop with Dreama Tolle Perry.  We painted in Shreveport, LA for three days....it was a good experience, and we met some wonderful artists.  It is always good to pick up some good techniques or find new paints or tools for painting.  Dreama's color palette is great...and if you every have the opportunity to take a workshop from her, you will come away with lots of inspiration.  Have a great day....Happy Easter!  Kay

Welcome by Kay Wyne

Welcome
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Oil Painting
This is a painting from a photograph from Dreama Tolle Perry's workshop.  I believe that Dreama took it on one of her trips to France.  I do like painting old architecture that has lots of character and imperfections.  I thought this front door was very welcoming.....thus, the title, "Welcome".  I used my artistic license and stacked in the potted plants and the vines up the outside wall.  It was fun to use Dreama's color palette and some of the tools she uses when painting.  This painting is drying in the studio and will probably be propped up on an easel.  Contact Kay for more information on the art posted here.  Thanks, Kay

Missed The Boat by Kay Wyne

Missed The Boat
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This is a small palette knife painting that was inspired by a weathered dinghy in a small fishing village in Maine.  I liked the rust and all of the imperfections on the dinghy, and all of the rocks poking up out of the water.  There is texture on this panel....and the painting is framed up in a dark wood moulding with a gold liner.  Ready for a new home!  Contact Kay for purchasing information.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art posted here.  Kay

Sunflower

Sunflower
12" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Today is Sept. 14th....and day 14 of the 30 Day Painting Challenge with Leslie Saeta.  My inspiration for this little painting was a photograph that was sent to my by my sister.  She has beautiful sunflowers in her backyard in Illinois.  It was a good exercise, and I would like to paint a large painting with a grouping of sunflowers in the future.

Here is one of the pics sent to me...I will be in the studio today working on painting #15 and some pieces for upcoming shows.  It seems like October is packed with art shows, receptions, studio tours, etc.  You can email me here if you have any questions about this painting.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Kay

A New Life

A New Life

32” X 32” Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! II Corinthians 5:17

This scripture has special meaning for me. When I starting painting, “A New Life” I was thinking that a butterfly was a symbol of new life. Something that is new, fresh, colorful and full of life.

I started painting this butterfly two months ago. At that time, my mother of 83 years was in failing health, and her decline in health was evident. I was painting along, thinking that a butterfly was a beautiful creature, and suddenly I was called away. My mother had passed away. It was expected, but unexpected. It was a sorrowful time for our family.

When I returned to the unfinished canvas, I recalled the memorial service for my mother, and one of the scripture readings was II Corinthians 5:17. I could now go ahead and finish the painting. I needed to put new life and color on the canvas. Knowing that God is with us. I am posting this painting in memory of my mother, Mary Lou and it will be hanging at the RLBC Arts Festival later this week. The show information is below. Happy Mothers Day to all!

You are cordially invited to attend the RLBC Arts Festival “A New Creation” based on the Scripture II Corinthians 5:17.
