Flower Power by Kay Wyne

Flower Power
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Painting
Finished!  This painting is drying in the studio...once I started this painting, I could not stop.  After visiting the Dallas Arboretum this week, I was so impressed and inspired with the vibrant colors of the tulips, that I could not resist painting them.  I decided that I needed to tone my canvas with a diluted Permanent Rose, then I was ready to start drawing on the canvas.  I used raw umber, olive green and violet to place the flowers and lay-out my road map.

I started with my transparent oils and put a couple of layers on, getting my dioxazine violet,  magenta, olive green, and permanent rose.  The background fades and is somewhat out of focus to create some distance on the canvas.  I mixed up about six different piles of greens, starting with sap, olive, and adding cad yellow and ice blue to get a good range of shades.  I put in the jonquils last because they were opaque, and I did not want to mix my transparent and opaques.  I hope that the viewer has a sense of the beauty and powerful color that I witnessed at the Arboretum.

On My Easel....

On my easel...
A 36" x 36" Gallery Wrap Canvas-the beginnings of a floral landscape.
After two days of painting, I am getting my darkest darks in and working mostly with my transparent oils.  I love to start with the Olive, Magenta, Indian Yellow, Permanent Rose and Dioxazine Violet, and Caribbean Blue, as they get darker and darker the more I layer them on.  I sketched my shapes in, blocking colors in, and now I am ready to put in some details on the flowers.  I started with my Ice Blue and Cerulean for the sky, bringing it down into the field of flowers.  I am using a photo of the beautiful tulips at the Dallas Arboretum as a guide.  More on this painting later....Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay Wyne

Pretty In Pink

Pretty In Pink
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
This is a sweet little tulip painting that I painted in a workshop with Dreama Tolle Perry.  We painted in Shreveport, LA for three days....it was a good experience, and we met some wonderful artists.  It is always good to pick up some good techniques or find new paints or tools for painting.  Dreama's color palette is great...and if you every have the opportunity to take a workshop from her, you will come away with lots of inspiration.  Have a great day....Happy Easter!  Kay

Contemporary Floral

Contemporary Floral Painting
24" x 24" Oil on Canvas
This still life is hanging at the studio.  It looks fabulous framed up. Heavy brushstrokes and deep rich colors give this piece a painterly quality.  I usually stay away from greens, but I used them on this contemporary painting.  I love putting the subject matter in my paintings off-center.  I think it makes the composition more interesting to view.  If you would like more photos of this painting, or would like to purchase please contact me!  Happy Monday.  Kay....at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.

You Make My Day by Kay Wyne

You Make My Day
24" x 18" Oil on Linen Gallery Wrap
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting was inspired by the beautiful tulips at the Dallas Arboretum. The colors were brilliant and I just had to paint them. I left the natural linen peaking through in some places....I liked the natural nubby look of it. Thanks for viewing this blog, and have a great day. Kay at kay@kwyne.com

Joyful Day

Joyful Day is a painting inspired by the tulips at the Dallas Arboretum. The tulips were out in full bloom during Dallas Blooms this spring. This 24" x 20" palette knife painting is on linen.
Last weekend John and I went to the Texas Hill Country and there were some amazing fields of flowers.....
Inspiring landscapes were everywhere!
Beautiful colors in this poppy field!
Brilliant fields of color!
Thanks for viewing.....have an artful day.
