Untitled Floral

Untitled
8" x 8" x 2" Oil on Cradleboard
Contemporary Still Life
After posting this small floral, I am thinking that it's not finished.  I was focused on mixing my violets, magentas and greys...and need to work on values and hi-lights.  Some people say that a painting is never completed until it leaves the studio, and the artist doesn't have the opportunity to go back in and paint on it.  Thanks for looking, Kay

Just A Memory

Just A Memory
8" x 8" x 2" Oil on Cradleboard
Contemporary Abstract Still Life
I was painting from memory, and going abstract on this panel.  I wanted to get the colors right, and big blocks of shapes.  This is a floral, but in a very abstract way.  You might see something else.  I had fun painting it, and that's important!  Contact Kay for more info on this painting or any other paintings on my blog.  Stay cool.  I will be in the studio avoiding the brutal Texas heat!  Thanks for looking, KMW

I think this painting is finished.  I took it off the easel and it is drying in the studio.  I might make a few minor changes, but for the most part, it's completed.  White looking at it in the studio I will come up with a name for it.  This is a painting that is getting ready to be entered in an upcoming juried exhibit.  Thanks for looking at my blog....contact ME with any questions or comments.  Kay

Painting Demonstration - Contemporary Floral by Kay Wyne

Yesterday's painting demonstration at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas
was attended by quiet a few friends and collectors.  I chose this beautiful
floral arrangement as my subject matter, picked up a 20" x 16" RayMar
Cotton Panel, and took off.....

After looking at the vertical format, I decided it would be a much more interesting painting if I used a horizontal format.  I took some Cad Orange and toned the white canvas down.
I quickly sketched it out on my canvas, then started laying in the colors.  I worked on this for about two hours, before the reception started.

Here is the final painting....it is drying at the gallery, and will probably be framed.  It was great putting on the show with studio mate Sharon Hodges and Santa Fe Artist Lisa Adams Reed.  Thanks to Selena for the beautiful floral arrangement, and Dutch Art Gallery for hosting a successful show!  I believe that seven of my paintings were sold!!!  Thanks, Kay Wyne

Crazy For You

Crazy For You
12" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
This is my latest floral.  My studio partner gave me a photograph that I kind of used as a jumping-off place.  A start.  And then I took it from there, cutting loose with color and simple strokes.  This painting does need a frame.  It has thick painterly strokes on the canvas, and would look great in a home or office. Contact Kay with any comments or questions on my art.  Thanks, Kay Wyne

Jar of Petals

Jar of Petals
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Oil Painting
My color palette is very vibrant in this painting....which I just completed in the studio.  It is too hot to paint outside in Texas under the hot July sun.  I had fun with this one....I wanted all of the flowers to sing with color.  Here is a pic of my palette that I was working from.
There is more brushwork than palette knife on this panel.  I wanted my colors to be bright, vivid and intense.  This painting will be drying in the studio, then I will frame.  Contact ME if you have any comments or have an interest in purchasing.  Thanks for looking....Kay Wyne

Half Pint - Sold

Half Pint
Sold
6" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This small panel was so much fun to paint...because of it's tiny size, I needed to make each brush stroke count.  My still life model was from Chris Heroy's lovely rose garden.  This was painted with the small mason jar sitting on the porch.  Thanks for looking at this blog....more florals are on the way.  Kay

Sitting Pretty by Kay Wyne

Sitting Pretty
12" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
$575
This small painting was completed in the studio yesterday.  I need to sign it and let dry before framing it up.  I had lots of great colors on my palette, and loved playing with the roses, reds, corals, violets and greys.  My intention was to get the palette knife out, but stuck with my flat brush.    I mixed and mixed my colors for this painting, but was careful not to mix them on the canvas, just  putting the paint down, and not going back into it, making each stroke count.   Contact Kay for more info on this small floral arrangement.  Thanks, Kay
