Sunflower Day

Sunflower Day
8" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Landscape
I have been working on this painting in the studio as my Trader Joe's real-life sunflowers are fading away. I might be able to get one more painting out of them.  I imagined a large towering stalk growing out in the country when I drew this out.  I wanted the sunflower to stand tall and powerful.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Kay

Wildflowers

Wildflowers
40" x 30" Oil and Charcoal on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Landscape
As I paint through the Cover-19 pandemic, I find myself wanting to paint happy, colorful and energetic paintings.  "Wildflowers" is just that.  I have been painting irises, but I thought I would add some wildflowers in the mix.  This painting is on a gallery wrap canvas, so framing is optional.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact ME for more information on this painting or any others posted here.  Have an artful day.  Kay

Bold Blooms

Bold Blooms
36" x 36" Oil and Charcoal on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Abstract
I have been working on these blooms all week, and I can say that I am finished!!!  I thought I was finished three different times, but after a studio critique and some thought, I made a few minor adjustments, and "Bold Blooms" is drying in the studio.  These irises are colorful, energetic and interesting.  I went through several steps, using lots of layers of color, taking the paint off, they reapplying it.  Then I decided to take some charcoal to it, and you can see of of the drawing peeking through.  I can't wait to varnish and place this canvas on the wall---framing on this one is optional.  Putting a frame on it would really complete this painting.  Contact Kay

Color Me Happy

Color Me Happy
Approx. 45" x 45" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Still Life
I painted this fun and colorful painting on an unstretched canvas.  The advantage to that is I can make the finished product a specific size.  I had fun drawing with oil bars, paint brushes and charcoal on this one...contact Kay for more information.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Flower Power

Flower Power
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Painting
A visit to the Dallas Arboretum gave me all the inspiration I needed for this canvas.  I decided that I needed to tone my canvas with a diluted Permanent Rose, then I was ready to start drawing on the canvas.  I used raw umber, olive green and violet to place the flowers and lay-out my road map.

I started with my transparent oils and put a couple of layers on, getting my dioxazine violet,  magenta, olive green, and permanent rose.  The background fades and is somewhat out of focus to create some distance on the canvas.  I mixed up about six different piles of greens, starting with sap, olive, and adding cad yellow and ice blue to get a good range of shades.  I put in the jonquils last because they were opaque, and I did not want to mix my transparent and opaques.  I hope that the viewer has a sense of the beauty and powerful color that I witnessed at the Arboretum.

On my easel...

On my easel...
I started a 30" x 40" gallery wrap canvas yesterday in the studio.
Here you can see I have two layers of transparent paint down.  I don't have a game plan at this time, just painting.  At this stage, anything is possible.
Currently, I have three canvases going right now, with hopes to complete at least one of them today.  Have a great day!  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  KMW

Color My World by Kay Wyne -sold

Color My World
Sold
14" x 10" Oil on Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting is sold, but it is one of my favorites.  It has a home in San Francisco, and is very handsome all framed up.  The colors pull your eye into the painting as the flowers in the field lead you into the canvas.  The flowers in the foreground are heavy with texture and were applied with the palette knife.  Thanks for looking at my blog...questions or comments, please contact Kay.  Thanks, KMW
