I just finished this one!  It has thick and juicy oils on the panel, applied with a wide brush and palette knife.  The thorns have texture, and the blooms have color.  Using a photo from a trip to Tucson, I painted this one in the studio.  Once it is dry, I will varnish and frame.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks, KMW

I was so excited to buy some new brushes, and this small floral was painted with one of them.  It was small Princeton Dakota/Flat brush.  I loaded the brush with lots of paint...and made every stroke count on this small panel.  It was fun playing and experimenting with a brush that I normally don't use.  These peonies are drying in the studio...contact Kay for more info on this small floral.  Thank you!  KMW

Contemporary Botanical Still Life

When one of your studio mates brings a fresh floral arrangement (from my favorite local florist) to the studio, the only thing to do is paint it!  The hydrangeas, peonies and roses were white, but in observing the petals, I found so many whites...cool whites, warm whites, yellow whites, grey whites, green whites....and everything in between.  I had a good time mixing colors!  I started painting this from life, but then used reference photos for the second day.  Thank you to RMN for sharing the stunning arrangement!  This painting is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my art....KMW

Contemporary Landscape

One of my favorite things to paint are old boats with lots of age, character and history.  You can see it all in the pealing paint, the weathered and tattered flags, and the fact that it is "docked" up on land, abandon. We found this one beached and out of commission on the island of Naxos.  I have painted it three times now, and every time I get excited, looking at the details in the surfaces and especially the Greek flags.  I was painting with brushes, and once I got to the battered wood, I pulled out my palette knife to get some texture on the boat.

High and Dry is finished, and very wet.  It is sitting on an easel in the studio.  I hope to varnish and frame it up.   (P.S. Thank you to Sharon, one of my studio mates......for telling me that the boat looks high and dry.  That really struck a cord with me.  Thus, the name of the painting..."High and Dry")!  Thanks for looking at my art...Kay

Inspired by beautiful Michigan peonies, I photographed the blooms when they were "on their way out".  I tossed them up in the air, and let them fall every which way. Contemporary Abstract Floral

I have been working on this piece for weeks in the studio, and I believe I am finished.  It started out with a vase and window panes, and didn't know what direction I would be going.  I wanted lots of bold color and shapes.  One day I fell in love with a floral arrangement that a fellow artist posted, and took colors and shapes of the blooms in that arrangement for the canvas.  Thank you, CHE!  Repeating circles and squares on the canvas give this canvas pattern play.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Thanks for looking, KMW
