White Rock Morning - Sold

White Rock Morning
SOLD
8" x 16" Oil on Panel
Plein Air
Thank you to Pam Massar, Dutch Art Gallery for framing and selling this landscape of White Rock Lake.  I had gone to the lake with my friend, Susan and we set up on a vacant lot, under a tree on a hot August morning.  I remember it well!  Thanks for looking at my blog....Kay

Happy Happy

Happy Happy
8" x 8" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Using a limited palette, I mixed my colors for this quick floral.
It was a good exercise, and I am going to paint with three colors and white for a while.  I was playing around with the possibilities.
                                                   (Here's my color swatch below)
This painting is available for purchase.  Thanks, KMW

Happy Happy

Happy Happy
8" x 8" Oil on Richeson Hardboard
Limited Palette
Contemporary Still Life
I painted this quickly and loosely with a limited palette.  I was working off of a photograph one of my studio mates brought in to share.   I was aware of the transparent oils going in before I started in with my opaques.  You can see that I did not fuss over my brushstrokes...they were deliberate and once I put them in, I left them.  This painting would look great sitting on an easel or framed up.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  Thanks, KMW

Limited Palette

Limited Palette
I painted these three 8" x 8" panels with a limited palette of Alizarin, Ultramarine, Cad Yellow Medium, and Titanium.  Clearly, you can mix wonderful colors with just three colors.  I should do it more often.  It makes me focus on composition and simplifies the painting process.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Untitled Floral

Contemporary Floral Still Life
Untitled
Limited Palette:  Cad Red Med., Cerulean, Cad Yellow Med., and Titanium
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
This is the third painting that I have painted, in a very different color palette that I normally use.  It was interesting, and although I wanted to reach for some other colors, I found myself mixing and mixing interesting combinations.  The colors are harmonious and work well together.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  I hope to be in the studio today working on a large canvas.  Kay

Playing with a Limited Palette

Three florals, each 12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
(I need to title them!)
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Here are three paintings with the same composition and subject matter, but each with a different color scheme on the limited palette.  Each limited palette consisted of three colors and white.  It's amazing what colors you can get with mixing three colors and white.  I learned a lot with this experiment, and pushed myself to paint with some colors that are not in my daily palette.  Clearly, the colors are harmonious in each painting.  If I had to pick the color palette that I am most comfortable with, it would be the third one, consisting of Alizarin, Ultramarine, Cad Yellow Med and Titanium.

I would encourage anyone who paints to paint with a limited palette and discover what colors can be made with three colors.  It's amazing.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.

Mixing It Up

Mixing It Up
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral
One of my studio mates brought in photograph that we used as a starting point for a paint-along.  I put a self-imposed challenge on this painting, using only three colors and a tube of white.  Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson and Cad Yellow along with Titanium White were my colors of choice.  I mixed and mixed my colors...a good lesson on color theory, and mixed the bouquet up, adding my own petals, leaves and berries.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments on this fun floral.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW
