Lately we have had fresh floral arrangements in the studio.  I decided that these white roses were needing to be painted!  This is a bird's eye view of the compact arrangement.  Green is a challenge for me, and I mixed and mixed so many greens and greys for this painting.  This painting is drying in the studio, will be framed up and ready for a new home soon.  Thanks for looking at my art.  Kay

A bird's eye view of this arrangement while sitting on the front porch this summer Up North was the inspiration for this painting.  Who new that nephew JH had flower arrangement skills!  I believe he carefully hand-picked these stems and then made the arrangement, which I complimented him on!  I quickly snapped a bird's eye view and used my photo in the studio.  Here's my photo:

Layers of color, shapes, and lines were painted to create this dynamic oil painting.  I didn't have a game plan when I started this painting.  Simply drawing on the canvas and building this arrangement was very exciting.  I went to my local florist and had some fresh blooms, and with my imagination, filled up the canvas with more greenery and flowers.  This painting is drying.  It is available for purchase, and it need a good name!  Any help on that would be appreciated!  Thanks for looking at my art, Kay Wyne

Contemporary Botanical Still Life/Palette Knife Painting

I was happy to be in the studio yesterday as it was over 100 degrees outside.  Summertime in Texas is hot!  I had a good time painting this floral.  I wanted to paint quickly with my brushstrokes and knife marks hitting the canvas, putting it down, and leaving it alone.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my art....KMW

I love painting on large square canvases.  Extravagant Ways is a mixed media piece because I used charcoal, oils, and oil bars.  Using the willow charcoal stick, I scraped into the layered oil when it was wet.  I enjoyed experimenting with different color combos as I worked my way through the painting.  The asymmetrical design and irregular shapes gives the imagination a chance to go to work.  Contact Kay for more info on this original painting.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

It's been extremely hot in Dallas, so I have been spending most of my time in the studio at my easel.  Painting small panels is satisfying when I can knock out a painting in two hours or less.  But, to change it up I have a large canvas to start today.  "Crowded" is drying, and will be looking for a new home soon.  Thanks for looking at my blog, Kay

When one of your studio mates brings a fresh floral arrangement (from my favorite local florist) to the studio, the only thing to do is paint it!  The hydrangeas, peonies and roses were white, but in observing the petals, I found so many whites...cool whites, warm whites, yellow whites, grey whites, green whites....and everything in between.  I had a good time mixing colors!  I started painting this from life, but then used reference photos for the second day.  Thank you to RMN for sharing the stunning arrangement!  This painting is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my art....KMW

My painting was put on hold for several weeks, but I am back in the studio and my easel has been kind to me.  I couldn't paint the beautiful arrangement given to me by friends during my recuperation.  Of course I took photos of the arrangement as reference.  This week I have been painting for the sake of painting...and it was so much fun!  Thanks to my friends for being so thoughtful! This painting is very close to being finished.  I will let it sit on the easel, and make any minor adjustments.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Limited Palette: Alizarin, Ultramarine, Cad Yellow Med and Titanium

This panel has lots of paint and texture on it.  I used a filbert brush for most of this painting.  I love painting sunflowers because the petals flop and are irregular.  I thought this was a very pretty ceramic piece, and I liked it in the composition. My first beetle bug painting....and I was in the studio working on a floral, put the Itty Bitty up to the  colorful canvas filled with blooms.  I think I need to paint in a bug or bumble bee to the floral!
