Colors In My Garden

Colors In My Garden
12" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Abstract
This floral painting is very abstract.  The lines and shapes are painted with thick oils-you can see the brush strokes.  The colors are bold and beautiful.  This painting needs a frame, and would be handsome in a silver/pewter moulding.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  KMW

Petals For You

Petals For You
16" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral
This palette knife painting is finally completed, dry and varnished.  It needs a frame, but is looking for a new home.  I struggled with this painting, and lost my enthusiasm for it at one point, putting it aside for months.  Once I got the palette knife out, it all worked out.  Layers of color and texture give this painting depth and interest.  Contact Kay for more info on this contemporary still life.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  KMW

Sun, Sand And The Rock

Sun, Sand, And The Rock
20" x 24" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
The rolling clouds are moving fast over this beach scene.  The wind is tossing the tall grass at the edge of the water.  The warm sand is so inviting, and The Rock is familiar to all who spend time on the beach at Sequanota.  This painting needs a frame, and is ready for a new home.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting, or any of the other paintings posted on my blog.  Thanks for looking!  KMW

On my easel these days...

This canvas is in the works...it is a 60" x 48" Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas.  I have moved it around, from a horizontal to a vertical position several times.  Layers of oil paints, oil bars and charcoal make this abstract very colorful with different lines and shapes in random chaos.  I am letting it sit in the studio for a few days to dry and then I will go back in and work on it more.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

The Guardian - Sold!

The Guardian
SOLD
48" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Landscape Painting
The Guardian has a new home with collectors in Dallas.  I believe that they are originally from Scottsdale, so I can understand why this painting struck a chord with them.  The husband gave the painting to his wife for Valentines!  I had this painting in my home for a while, and got attached to it.  This is one of those pieces that I really enjoyed the experience of painting, and for sentimental reasons, liked the painting.  I may need to paint some more cacti...but for now The Guardian is hanging in a new home!  That puts a smile on my face.  I am currently working in the studio getting ready for an upcoming show.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Have a great day.  Kay

Extravagant Ways

Extravagant Ways
Oil and Oil Stick on 40" x 40" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Floral
I love painting on large square canvases.  Extravagant Ways is a mixed media piece because I used charcoal, oils, and oil bars.  Using the willow charcoal stick, I scraped into the layered oil when it was wet.  I enjoyed experimenting with different color combos as I worked my way through the painting.  The asymmetrical design and irregular shapes gives the imagination a chance to go to work.  Contact Kay for more info on this original painting.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

Everything Is Peachy

Everything Is Peachy
8" x 8" x 2" Oil and Charcoal on Cradleboard
Contemporary Abstract
I started with some cad yellow undertones on this panel.  Then after letting it dry, I drew some shapes with a willow charcoal stick, then started applying the oils with a brush.  The smooth surface was lacking texture, so I could scrape into the oils with my rubber clay tools.  Then I went back into the painting with some oil sticks.  The painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info. Thanks for looking at my blog.  KMW

Mellow

Mellow
8" x 8" x 2" Oil and Charcoal on Cradleboard
Contemporary Abstract
Pinks, violets, blues and small amounts of turquoise and green were mixed with ice blue to cover the slick surface of the cradleboard.  All mellow colors to me.  I scraped into the paint and used a willow charcoal stick to make my marks.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  KMW
