Glorious Day

Glorious Day
10" x 20" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Landscape/Palette Knife Painting
Finished!  Using a palette knife and thick layers of oils, I painted this cotton panel in the studio.  I was able to go back into my memory and a few photos to capture the beauty of nature and the great outdoors.  When looking closely, you can see the texture created with the knife.  This one is currently getting a custom frame.  Thanks for looking at my art.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  KMW

Palette Knife Painting - Contemporary Cow

Contemporary Cow
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Panel
Palette Knife Painting
Yesterday I went into the studio and decided to paint with lots of vibrant oils and one palette knife.  I started by mixing my piles of color.  I added some impasto to the oils to help expedite the drying process because I had planned on using thick amounts of paint.  I was careful not to create mud, as I laid the paint onto the surface of the panel.  He was fun to paint!  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog...KMW

Spirited

Spirited
8" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
"Spirited" was painted with fresh, crisp juicy oils and my palette knife.  I chose beautiful blues, peaches, greens and yellows, carefully applying them so that I did not create the color MUD.  The movement and texture are right there, giving the painting personality and uniqueness.  Once this painting dries, I would like to put a beautiful pewter frame on it...but it is drying in the studio right now.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Course of Color

Course of Color
12" x 16" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Landscape Palette Knife Painting
After changing directions on this painting by the urging of one of my collectors, I painted my first golf course.  I couldn't leave it with just greens...had to add some floral colors along the way. I mixed my colors and applied with a palette knife. This painting is drying in the studio.  Thank you for looking at my blog...Kay

Untitled Palette Knife Painting

Untitled
5 1/2" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Abstract
I have numerous projects going in different directions at the studio.  I have four florals started for Dutch Art Gallery, a home improvement project of chalk painting, a cross stitch project for a Christmas gift, painting on index cards, and then at home I am working on a jigsaw puzzle, and have my watercolors out in the home studio.  And I am reading more.  That's how I am handling the Covid19 Pandemic. Although Dallas is starting to open up and relax the stay at home rules, I don't think we will be going out and about quite yet.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Have an artful day.  Kay

Boundaries

Boundaries
6" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Obviously this isn't one of my colorful and energizing paintings that I love to create.  This is my response and entry to a juried show, COPING WITH COVID-19 | The Artist Perspective.  I think everyone is tired and feeling Blah with the stay at home orders.  We just got an extension in Dallas County on our orders to stay at home and more social distancing until May 15th.  More painting in the studio today...Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Palette Knife Painting - Petals

Petals
10" x 10" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
It was an odd Easter without seeing our kids, grandkids, church.  I went to the studio and passed my time with my palette knife.  Here's my Easter painting.  I hope you are staying home, staying healthy during this Covid 19 episode.  More from the studio today...Kay

Morning View

Morning View
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Landscape/Palette Knife Painting
Every morning in Naxos we woke up to this spectacular view.  The road in front of the villa was winding along the shoreline, and the winds were usually blowing full force.  In the distance you can see that beautiful little chapel perched up on an island.  With Easter approaching, I remember one of the locals telling me that Easter service is the only time this chapel is open.  I wanted to nail down the colors of Naxos, and the beautiful Aegean Sea. The use of the palette knife is perfect for this rocky terrain...lots of texture on this canvas.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Springtime

Springtime
12" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Landscape/Palette Knife Painting
Spring is here, and I am reminded how quickly our weather changes in Texas.  This palette knife painting represents the unstable weather we have...tornadoes, flooding, extreme heat...you name it, we get it.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog...I have more new paintings on my easel in the studio.  Kay

Dwell

Dwell
18" x 18" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Nest Series
I finished this palette knife painting yesterday in the studio.  It had been in the works for a couple of months.  I had piles and piles of mixed oils on my palette.  Mixing paints is a really fun thing to do, and I usually mix a wide range of colors all at once.  Once my piles of oils are ready I can use my palette knifes, brushes and tools to apply the paint. This one has lots of texture!  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Colour My World

Color My World
16" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Landscape
I framed this palette knife painting and it is hanging in the studio.  I have had quite a few comments about the color palette I used, along with the movement and texture in the painting.  I may take it home to enjoy now that it has a handsome frame on it.  I have been working in the studio and soaking up our sunshine, and obeying the "stay in shelter" rules we have in Dallas.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Sun, Sand And The Rock

Sun, Sand, And The Rock
20" x 24" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
The rolling clouds are moving fast over this beach scene.  The wind is tossing the tall grass at the edge of the water.  The warm sand is so inviting, and The Rock is familiar to all who spend time on the beach at Sequanota.  This painting needs a frame, and is ready for a new home.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting, or any of the other paintings posted on my blog.  Thanks for looking!  KMW

Persuasion - Diptych

Persuasion II
24" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Here are the two canvases together:
Persuasion I and Persuasion II
Diptych 48" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Using a palette knife to apply the layers of oil paints, this abstract was created with color and movement in mind.  The shapes of color overlap each other, and the oils blended into each other.  Greys, violets, magenta, pinks, corals, greens, and tangerine are the colors in this contemporary abstract.  The colors float across the canvas.  The paintings can be hung separately, or as a diptych.  Contact Kay Wyne or Dutch Art Gallery for purchasing information.  Thanks, KMW
