Pieces of petals, a vase, and leaves can be seen in this abstract still life. It's fun and with lots of movement going on. Painted on a gallery wrap canvas with the sides painted Portland Grey, this painting is ready to hang. Framing is optional. Contact Kay for more info. Thanks for looking at my blog. KMW
As we are all quarantined doing our own thing, I am painting. I took an unfinished abstract and got my oils, oil bars and graphite out, along with my palette knife and big brush. I started seeing a clothesline and clothes whipping in the air. It was fun to paint, and it is now drying in the studio. Thanks for looking at my blog...contact Kay for more info. KMW
This oil painting is full of movement and color. There are layers of paint, all mixed together with my knife, then applied generously on the panel. This painting is framed up in a handsome custom frame. It is available for purchase. Contact Kay for more information. Thank you, KMW
As I paint through the Cover-19 pandemic, I find myself wanting to paint happy, colorful and energetic paintings. "Wildflowers" is just that. I have been painting irises, but I thought I would add some wildflowers in the mix. This painting is on a gallery wrap canvas, so framing is optional. Thanks for looking at my blog. Contact ME for more information on this painting or any others posted here. Have an artful day. Kay
As I was thumbing through my reference photos, I found a great shot of a bearded iris. It is such a beautiful and complicated flower, with ruffled and lacey petals that are layered. It was fun to paint, even though the iris is so much more beautiful in person. This painting is drying in the studio. I hope to get it framed up once it is dry and varnished. This painting is available for purchase. Thanks for looking at my blog, Kay
This panel was painted recently during the Covid-19 pandemic. It has wonderful colors in the landscape, and the sky is very moody. The paint was applied thickly with a palette knife, giving the painting lots of texture. It's tempting --- when you are looking at it up close, it's something that you want to touch! I plan on putting a frame on this panel...it is at the studio just waiting to go live in a new home. Thanks for looking at my blog...contact Kay for more info. KMW
I have been working on this gallery wrap canvas on and off this week in the studio. I usually need to layer my sunflowers, so I would work on it for a couple of hours, and go to another painting. Then apply more paint in the next session. I am going to let this one dry, and while it is drying I will make one or two minor adjustments. I wanted to introduce some surprise colors in this painting, thus the red, peaches, pinks and blues. Thanks for looking at my blog. Feel free to contact my about this painting or any other paintings posted on my blog. Artfully yours, Kay
"Sitting Pretty" is completed, signed and varnished and put it in a beautiful mahogany frame. Contact Kay for more info. Here's a pic of it all framed up. Thanks for looking at my blog...KMW
There is an painting underneath this one...I believe it was called "Pink". I took a large brush and started painting large shapes. Soon I found a picnic tablecloth, with bowls of fruit. I simplified all the elements of the painting, and experimented with some unusual color combinations. This painting is all framed up in a silver contemporary frame. Contact Kay for more information. Thanks for looking at my blog....KMW
This painting might be finished, so I though I would take this opportunity to look at it on the computer. I want to think about it, and if I do make some adjustments tomorrow, it won't be much. Thanks for looking at my blog. Have an artful day, Kay
This is probably one of my favorite plein air paintings. I have so many paintings that I started outside, but was unable to finish. I stuck it out on this one, even though it was a very cold and windy December day at White Rock Lake. I like the feel of the painting...kind of moody, and because I used the palette knife, there was a lot of scraping and modeling of the oils. This painting is available, and looks great in a dark mahogany wood frame with a gold inside liner. Contact Kay for more information. Thanks, KMW
These days I am into abstracts, starting with what I call a roadmap. I draw, paint and then scrape away the oils, and do all again. I mixed my colors and mixed more colors, and my piles of oil overlapped...so that they are harmonious. I did not plan anything, it all happened and the prussian blue lines/vase was put in at the very end...so now I have an abstract floral. This painting is drying in the studio. Contact Kay for more info. Thanks for looking at my blog. KMW
Using oils and oil sticks, I painted this small abstract in the studio along with a floral still life. I needed to change things up, and I did on "Anything Goes". I was painting several vases, in a variety of shapes and colors. This painting is drying in the studio and will look great in a contemporary floater frame. Contact Kay for more info. Thanks for looking at my blog. KMW
30" x 15" Oil and Charcoal on Gallery Wrap Canvas Contemporary Floral
As I am spending lots of time in the studio during this pandemic, and I am on a flower kick. I picked up a 30" x 15" canvas, and started throwing paint on it, scraping it --- not knowing what my game plan was. I immediately saw some irises in a garden, and went with that idea. I had great colors out on my palette from a previous floral painting. Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay
Blowing In The Wind 30" x 40" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas

This painting has a new home! I was thrilled to be able to "barter" for some knitting services from a new friend in our neighborhood. With the expansion of several new grandbabies in our family, I was in need of knitted Christmas stockings, and found the perfect person for the job! In return, she now has "Blowing In The Wind" in her White Rock Lake home.
I have been working on these blooms all week, and I can say that I am finished!!! I thought I was finished three different times, but after a studio critique and some thought, I made a few minor adjustments, and "Bold Blooms" is drying in the studio. These irises are colorful, energetic and interesting. I went through several steps, using lots of layers of color, taking the paint off, they reapplying it. Then I decided to take some charcoal to it, and you can see of of the drawing peeking through. I can't wait to varnish and place this canvas on the wall---framing on this one is optional. Putting a frame on it would really complete this painting. Contact Kay

I worked on this mixed media piece this week, and pushed and pulled the images. I wanted the flowers to go in and out of focus, and loose some edges. If you look closely, you can see I used charcoal to draw into the paint. I was experimenting with some different color combinations. This painting is drying in the studio. Thanks for looking at my art. Kay
