Cowgirl

Cowgirl
20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Bovine
I am painting a pastoral scene in the studio with a couple of cows in it, and I couldn't help but revisit Cowgirl.  She's a beauty, and I painted her after seeing her at the Ft. Worth Stock Show a couple of years ago.  I believe she had traveled from Illinois to Texas for the show.  I can't wait to get into the studio to work on my current painting.  Thanks for looking....Kay

Pecan Leaves

Pecan Leaves
9" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
I have a studio mate who might share a photo or drawing or idea with me, and we both paint in our own styles.  Last week she brought a pecan leaf, and I had fun abstracting it and using a different color palette. First I started with a toned canvas.  I think it was Cad Orange.  Then I drew some big shapes with a willow charcoal stick.  I limited myself to three greens for the leaves, and simplified the viens that were running through the leaves.  Here's my finished product...it is always fun to see how others interpret and see things differently - that's why I like paint challenges.  Thanks for looking.....Kay

A Day In Saguaro

A Day In Saguaro
12" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Landscape
This Arizona desert landscape is framed up and now hangs in our home.  The location is Saguaro National Park East.  The rough landscape of the desert was fun to paint once I had my underpainting in.  I used a palette knife on the mountains, cactus and shrubs.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Let The Sun Shine In

Let The Sun Shine In
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I have been painting small still life panels.  I wanted to capture the light hitting the pot, and the irregular sunflower petals and leaves.  It was fun and great to be able to start and finish a painting in a short amount of time.  This painting is dry and ready for a new home!  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Glorious Morning

Glorious Morning
30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Landscape/Seascape
Perched up on an rocky island is a little white chapel in the Aegean Sea.  Looking at this view every morning in Greece was fabulous.  The locals told us that Easter was the only time the chapel is used, as you have to take a small boat from Naxos to get there, then take the steps that lead up to the chapel.  The colors in the sea were amazing.  I used a palette knife, wide brushes and rubber tools used for ceramics to apply the oils.  Thanks for looking at my art...Kay

Still Life Situation #1

Still Life Situation #1
16" X 12" Oil, Charcoal and Oil Stick on Canvas
New Series:  Still Life Situations
I have started a new group of paintings in the studio, all are still life.  My objective is to experiment with color and abstract my paintings in a simple but pleasing composition.  Textiles, ceramics, fruit, flowers, vegetables, will be in my still life paintings...but not in a traditional painting style.  More to come!  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at my art!  KMW

Timeless

Timeless
60" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Landscape
Timeless is one of my favorite paintings...I liked it so much that I had it printed on my business cards.  The colors were mixed and mixed, and are very harmonious.  There is plenty of texture on the canvas...you can see the palette knife work, almost like frosting on a cake.  Let me know if you have any comments or questions concerning my art...I would love for Timeless to have a new home!  Kay

Crossroads

Crossroads
12" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Abstract
There's a lot of movement on this panel.  Lots of color too.  I see several crossroads in the landscape, with some twists and turns along the way.  I used bold colors, a palette knife and a wipe-out tool.  Loads of thick oils on this one.  It is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Kay

Joyful

Joyful
8" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I made up a quick still life setting in the studio with a handful of Trader Joe's sunflowers.  I set the timer, and allowed myself an hour to paint the petals.  I zoomed in on the arrangement and painted them in a horizontal format, which I think is interesting.  I liked the was each flower was flopping over the vase.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Just For You

 Just For You
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Abstract
Shapes of color and lines of charcoal give this panel a loose and carefree feeling.  I was playing around with color and started to draw on top of the paint.  This panel is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

Wilted

Wilted
8" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I think that sunflowers are interesting and beautiful, even after they have reached their peek and blooming.  I bought these at Trader Joe's, and I was able to paint from them for a couple of weeks!  I enjoyed painting them at all stages, and especially this wilted stage.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  KMW
