Standing Tall

Standing Tall
16" x 8" Oil on Panel
Our weather has been good for the past week, and John and I have been to the lake several times.  I spotted this egret standing in the reeds along the shoreline.  And loved how he is tucked away in the dense growth with the lake in the distance.  I painted this one in the studio, and used my artistic license to add color to the reeds.  It took several sessions to paint, as I needed the layers of oil to dry before I applied more paint...not wanting to create mud.  This painting is drying in the studio.   Thanks for looking at my art...Kay

Colors of January

Colors of January
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Panel
Plein Air/White Rock Lake, Dallas
January in Dallas can be very warm or brutally cold.  Yesterday John and I went to White Rock Lake...the sun was out, but it was windy and very chilly.  The weather conditions forced me to paint fast.  I wanted to nail the colors to get a feel for the day.  The brush and scrubby trees were right in front of my set-up (see photo below).
Thanks for looking at my art.  Please contact ME with any questions or comments.  This painting will be available for purchase once it has dried.  Kay

Plein Air at White Rock Lake
Thank you, Dutch Art Gallery for displaying, framing and selling this plein air piece.  I remember setting up to do a quick painting of the lake, with the marina in the background.  There were a few sailboat out, and I captured one in my painting.  Using a palette knife I put some scruffy tall grass in the foreground.  It was a great day to paint at the lake!  Thanks for looking....KMW

White Rock Lake in November

White Rock Lake in November
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Panel
Plein Air Painting
The weather in Dallas has been great--and instead of going to the studio, I set up my easel at the lake.  I picked a spot that had a winding bike path, trees and of course a view of the water.  I had to work fast because it was late afternoon with good shadows, but the light was changing.  I spent about 45 minutes on this small study.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Star Gazing

Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
A big shout-out to Val, who took the photo that inspired me to paint this panel.  She was at White Rock Lake looking for the Bethlehem Star.  This photo is stunning...and I just had to paint it.  I started our with brushes, but decided that thick impasto would give it texture.  After laying out the painting, I took my palette knife to the piles of paint that I had mixed up.  This painting is drying in the studio.

Plein Air at White Rock Lake

Yesterday was a perfect plein air day at White Rock Lake.  I did finish this painting, and here is a shot of my progress, as I worked quickly.  I was concentrating on the long afternoon shadows spilling over the bike path.  The weather was perfect and I had plenty of passer-byers who stopped to chat and take a peek.  This is a 10" x 10" Oil on RayMar panel.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay
