Colors of January

Colors of January
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Panel
Plein Air/White Rock Lake, Dallas
January in Dallas can be very warm or brutally cold.  Yesterday John and I went to White Rock Lake...the sun was out, but it was windy and very chilly.  The weather conditions forced me to paint fast.  I wanted to nail the colors to get a feel for the day.  The brush and scrubby trees were right in front of my set-up (see photo below).
Thanks for looking at my art.  Please contact ME with any questions or comments.  This painting will be available for purchase once it has dried.  Kay

White Rock Lake in November

White Rock Lake in November
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Panel
Plein Air Painting
The weather in Dallas has been great--and instead of going to the studio, I set up my easel at the lake.  I picked a spot that had a winding bike path, trees and of course a view of the water.  I had to work fast because it was late afternoon with good shadows, but the light was changing.  I spent about 45 minutes on this small study.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Windy December

Windy December
8" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
En Plein Air Palette Knife Painting
This is probably one of my favorite plein air paintings.  I have so many paintings that I started outside, but was unable to finish.  I stuck it out on this one, even though it was a very cold and windy December day at White Rock Lake.  I like the feel of the painting...kind of moody, and because I used the palette knife, there was a lot of scraping and modeling of the oils.  This painting is available, and looks great in a dark mahogany wood frame with a gold inside liner.  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks, KMW

This small painting was painted outside at the cottage in Michigan...The full and colorful roses were from our neighbor's flower garden.  They were spectacular!  Thanks to Chris for letting me cut a few of her magnificent roses for this still life.    This painting is at Dutch Art Gallery all framed up in the beautiful silver custom frame.  Thanks for looking at my blog...contact ME with any questions or comments.  Have a great day, KMW

Lake Charlevoix

Lake Charlevoix
10" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Plein Air Painting
I'm back home...after a month in Illinois and Michigan.  I have been painting, but because of travel and computer issues, I have taken a break from blogging.  Here is a plein air painting that I painted from the cottage porch overlooking the lake.  It made it back to Dallas, and I hope to frame it.  Stay cool...I am staying inside the comforts of the air conditioned studio working on a commission.  Contact Kay with any comments/questions.  KMW

Day After Fourth of July

Day After Fourth of July
16" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Plein Air Landscape
Sequanota Club, Charlevoix, Michigan
Up North the fourth of July is celebrated big-time...picnics, fireworks, swimming, boating, sailing, and lots of outdoor fun with friends and family.  The day after was quiet in comparison, but lovely.  I ventured down to the Klingbeil Cottage and painted outdoors.  The birch trees were beautiful with Lake Charlevoix in the background.  Here is a pic of myself painting en plein aire.
I am thrilled that this painting has a new home...in Ironton, Michigan.  It will be framed up and hang in a beautiful cottage not far from where I painted this panel.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  Artfully yours, Kay

Colors of Seabrook by Kay Wyne

Colors of Seabrook
6" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Painting in plein air on the beach is a great experience.  Last year John and I were at Seabrook Island outside of Charleston and I had the opportunity to beach-it daily.  This small panel is in the studio, and I hope to paint a large canvas with this as guide on the color palette.  I put my brushes away for this painting, and used a palette knife.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact ME for more info on my paintings. Windy December - Plein Air Painting

Windy December - Plein Air
8" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Landscape of White Rock Lake
This was a memorable but cold and windy day at the lake.  I was with a group of artists painting.  The wind was the biggest challenge of the day.  I had to paint fast.  I started with a brush, but ended up scraping the panel and staring all over with the palette knife.  This painting is hanging in my house and I have to smile when I look at it...the painting experience was one that I will not forget!  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay
