Contemporary Abstract

This large canvas went through a lot of changes over the past week...Layers of drawings, brushwork and scraping finally got me to the place where I felt like this abstract was finished. It's drying in the studio, with the sides of the canvas painted a dark vulcan grey.  (Framing is optional....it's wired, and ready to hang!)  The spice of turquoise offsets the muted pinks, whites and greys.  When you look up close you can see drawings in charcoal that come and go.  I named this abstract Cotton Candy because it of the shades of pink...and it was so much fun to create!  Thanks for looking at my blog..Kay

4" x 4" is teeny tiny!  I applied the paint in thick globs without using an medium to thin the paint down.  I had to simplify my composition and make every stroke count with this size canvas.  This painting has the 1/2" sides of the canvas painted the deep charcoal grey that you see in the pic above, with my signature on this side.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting or any other painting posted on my blog.  Have an artful day....KMW

In the studio yesterday, I pulled a canvas out that didn't get enough attention and I got bored with it.  It looked like this (below)---A good start, but I wasn't sure what direction the painting was going.  Just an underpainting.

So, I squeezed out plenty of paint on my palette and decided to paint, giving the canvas more color and movement.  I used wide brushes and lots of paint.  "On The Move" is completed, signed and drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Have an artful day!  Kay

Thick paint was applied with a filbert --- you can

see globs of oil and the paint oozing onto the

canvas.  I had originally painted a rooster who

was stiff, and looked like a statue, so I totally

repainted him and had fun doing so.
