Picnic

Picnic
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
There is an painting underneath this one...I believe it was called "Pink".  I took a large brush and started painting large shapes.  Soon I found a picnic tablecloth, with bowls of fruit.  I simplified all the elements of the painting, and experimented with some unusual color combinations.  This painting is in the studio, and is available.  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks for looking at my blog....KMW

Untitled Abstract

48" x 60" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
I painted this canvas starting out with a horizontal format,
but switched it up to vertical.  It works both ways...and
I am trying to decide where I should sign it.
I also need to put a title on it.

A Day In Saguaro

A Day In Saguaro
12" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Landscape
It is finally finished.  I started this painting three years ago after a trip to Arizona, and lost interest in it.  The location was Saguaro National Park East.  I revisited the canvas this week and I am glad I did.  The rough landscape of the desert was fun to paint once I had my underpainting in.  I used a palette knife on the mountains, cactus and shrubs.  This painting is drying in the studio, and will be framed up.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Timeless by Kay Wyne

Timeless
60" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Landscape
Timeless is one of my favorite paintings...I liked it so much that I had it printed on my business cards.  The colors were mixed and mixed, and are very harmonious.  There is plenty of texture on the canvas...you can see the palette knife work, almost like frosting on a cake.  Let me know if you have any comments or questions concerning my art...I would love for Timeless to have a new home!  Kay

Flower Power

Flower Power
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Painting
A visit to the Dallas Arboretum gave me all the inspiration I needed for this canvas.  I decided that I needed to tone my canvas with a diluted Permanent Rose, then I was ready to start drawing on the canvas.  I used raw umber, olive green and violet to place the flowers and lay-out my road map.

I started with my transparent oils and put a couple of layers on, getting my dioxazine violet,  magenta, olive green, and permanent rose.  The background fades and is somewhat out of focus to create some distance on the canvas.  I mixed up about six different piles of greens, starting with sap, olive, and adding cad yellow and ice blue to get a good range of shades.  I put in the jonquils last because they were opaque, and I did not want to mix my transparent and opaques.  I hope that the viewer has a sense of the beauty and powerful color that I witnessed at the Arboretum.
