Itty Bitties Galore!

Itty Bitty Series
Each original painting is 3" x 3" x 1/2" Oil on Cradleboard
$25 each
I switched things up from big to small at my easel...these fun little ones are drying in the studio.  I explored some new subject matter for the Itty Bitty Series...a couple of cheeseburgers, some new vases, prickly pear cactus and some different color combinations.  These smalls are great gifts, and when placed on an easel adds a little happiness to the room!  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  Thanks for looking, KMW

Wilted

Wilted
8" x 8" x 2" Oil and Silver Leaf on Cradleboard
Contemporary Floral
After a recent trip to Santa Fe, I was inspired to paint the beautiful sunflowers...and this one had already peaked.  But it was still beautiful with it's various shades of ochre and green, and it's unusual shape.  I had to apply numerous layers on the silver leaf...this painting is drying in the studio, and is looking for a home.  Since it is painted on cradleboard, framing is optional.  Thanks for looking at my art.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  KMW

Today

Today
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
This canvas has been sitting on my easel for several weeks.  I was really into it when I started, then hit a bump in the road.  I had a motivational issue after I had about 80% of the painting completed.  But, today I was able to focus on the details and complete!  This painting is drying in the studio, and will be looking for a forever home very soon.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

White Rock Lake in November

White Rock Lake in November
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Panel
Plein Air Painting
The weather in Dallas has been great--and instead of going to the studio, I set up my easel at the lake.  I picked a spot that had a winding bike path, trees and of course a view of the water.  I had to work fast because it was late afternoon with good shadows, but the light was changing.  I spent about 45 minutes on this small study.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Still Life Situation #1

Still Life Situation #1
16" X 12" Oil, Charcoal and Oil Stick on Canvas
Contemporary Still Life
I love painting abstracts.  On this canvas, my objective was to experiment with color and abstract my paintings in a simple but pleasing composition.  Textiles, ceramics, fruit, flowers, and vegetables are my subject matter.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at my art!  KMW

Still Life

Untitled Still Life
14" x 14" Oil and Charcoal on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life
I was experimenting with a different color palette of muted greens, greys and ochres.  I painted this still life to have an abstract quality, and rather loose. This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks, KMW

Floral Majesty

Floral Majesty
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Floral Landscape
Thanks to LB, one of my collectors and blog readers for the suggestion on the name for this 12" x 12" oil painting.  Putting a title to each painting is part of the process, and it doesn't always come easy.  This panel is framed up in a silver moulding...ready to find a new home.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  KMW

Extravagant Ways

Extravagant Ways
Oil and Oil Stick on 40" x 40" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Floral
I love painting on large square canvases.  Extravagant Ways is a mixed media piece because I used charcoal, oils, and oil bars.  Using the willow charcoal stick, I scraped into the layered oil when it was wet.  I enjoyed experimenting with different color combos as I worked my way through the painting.  The asymmetrical design and irregular shapes gives the imagination a chance to go to work.  Contact Kay for more info on this original painting.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

Good Vibes

Good Vibes
18" x 18" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
What do you do when you get a new palette knife?  Paint a palette knife painting!!!  I was so excited to get some new painting supplies, and since I have dropped (ruined) some of my knives, I decided to treat myself to a new one.  As I was playing with the paint, pushing and pulling the juicie oils, I came up with this abstract.  Lots of texture.  Beautiful colors.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  This painting is hanging at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.  Contact ME with any questions or comments!  Kay

Happy Happy

Happy Happy
8" x 8" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Using a limited palette, I mixed my colors for this quick floral.
It was a good exercise, and I am going to paint with three colors and white for a while.  I was playing around with the possibilities.
                                                   (Here's my color swatch below)
This painting is available for purchase.  Thanks, KMW

Prickly Pear Blooms

Prickly Pear Blooms
8" x 8" x 2" Oil and Silver Foil on Cradleboard
Contemporary Cactus Series
My husband, John loves cactus and is very good at growing them.  I caught a photograph of a blooming prickly pear in our front yard earlier this year.  I don't have a green thumb, but I do like painting cactus, especially those with beautiful, vibrant blooms and lots of texture!  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

Prickly Pear

Prickly Pear
8" x 8" x 2" Oil and Silver Leaf on Cradleboard
Contemporary Floral
The flowers on this prickly pear are like a rainbow, full of color variation.  "Prickly Pear" took many studio sessions, as I had to let each layer of oil dry before I came back with another layer.  The foil is fun to paint on, but rather slippery for my brush.  I used a palette knife to lay in the long sharp needles of the cactus.  This painting is drying in the studio, and once it is varnished, it will be available for purchase.  Thanks for looking at my art.  Kay
