Desert Colors

10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Panel

(Framed, 13" x 13")

Contemporary Landscape

This painting is all framed up ready for a new home!  The colors of the desert and Tucson foothills is amazing.  I wanted to paint a trail with all of it's scrubby, natural growth.  This painting is available.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thank you, KMW

Desert Blooms

Desert Blooms

10" x 10" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Contemporary Cactus Series

I am back in the studio...I painted this 10" square canvas using a brush and palette knife.  Putting the needles in with a knife was fun...and of course the last step.  My photo reference was one that I have had for years...might of been from a trip to Arizona, not sure.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Kay

Cacti Blossoms

Cacti Blossoms

8" x 16" Oil on RayMar Panel

Contemporary Cactus/Floral

I just finished this one!  It has thick and juicy oils on the panel, applied with a wide brush and palette knife.  The thorns have texture, and the blooms have color.  Using a photo from a trip to Tucson, I painted this one in the studio.  Once it is dry, I will varnish and frame.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks, KMW

Wilted

Wilted

8" x 8" x 2" Oil and Silver Leaf on Cradleboard

Contemporary Floral

After a recent trip to Santa Fe, I was inspired to paint the beautiful sunflowers...and this one had already peaked.  But it was still beautiful with it's various shades of ochre and green, and it's unusual shape.  I had to apply numerous layers on the silver leaf...this painting is drying in the studio, and is looking for a home.  Since it is painted on cradleboard, framing is optional.  Thanks for looking at my art.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  KMW

Prickly Pear

Prickly Pear

8" x 8" x 2" Oil and Silver Leaf on Cradleboard

Contemporary Floral

The flowers on this prickly pear are like a rainbow, full of color variation.  "Prickly Pear" took many studio sessions, as I had to let each layer of oil dry before I came back with another layer.  The foil is fun to paint on, but rather slippery for my brush.  I used a palette knife to lay in the long sharp needles of the cactus.  This painting is drying in the studio, and once it is varnished, it will be available for purchase.  Thanks for looking at my art.  Kay

A Day In Saguaro

A Day In Saguaro

12" x 24" Oil on Canvas

Contemporary Landscape

This Arizona desert landscape is framed up and now hangs in our home.  The location is Saguaro National Park East.  The rough landscape of the desert was fun to paint once I had my underpainting in.  I used a palette knife on the mountains, cactus and shrubs.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Guardian of the Desert

Guardian of the Desert

30" x 15" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Contemporary Landscape

The Saguaro cactus grows in Arizona, having a long lifespan of 150 years or more.  I can only think that this one has many years on it.  The arms are massive and very interesting in shape and the way they twist and turn from the trunk. John and I found this large Saguaro in Sabino Canyon in Tucson, Arizona.  I wanted to paint all the different colors of the desert that you see when you are there in person, and using my imagination, added some beautiful violets, corals, greens and greys.  This large Saguaro fills the canvas, giving it a presence on the canvas, just as it does in the desert.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

It is finally finished.  I started this painting three years ago after a trip to Arizona, and lost interest in it.  The location was Saguaro National Park East.  I revisited the canvas this week and I am glad I did.  The rough landscape of the desert was fun to paint once I had my underpainting in.  I used a palette knife on the mountains, cactus and shrubs.  This painting is drying in the studio, and will be framed up.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Contemporary Landscape Painting

This painting is sold, and I really miss it.  I think I need to paint another large saguaro on a big canvas.  I have been painting small and medium size canvases at the studio...today might be a good day to change things up!  Thanks for looking at my blog...KMW
