Desert Blooms

Desert Blooms
10" x 10" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Cactus Series
I am back in the studio...I painted this 10" square canvas using a brush and palette knife.  Putting the needles in with a knife was fun...and of course the last step.  My photo reference was one that I have had for years...might of been from a trip to Arizona, not sure.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Kay

Jewel Box

Jewel Box
60" x 48" x 2"
Contemporary Abstract
O.K. it's been created.  It was fun, it was good, and lots of conversation about this canvas....It has been decided to hang it vertically.  It now has a name....  Thank you, Selena.  My intentions were good, but my path was misunderstood as I painted away on this large canvas.  Here it is, Jewel Box.  I think it is colorful, interesting and fun.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions....thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy
40" x 40" Oil, Oil Bar and Charcoal on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
This large canvas went through a lot of changes over the past week...Layers of drawings, brushwork and scraping finally got me to the place where I felt like this abstract was finished. It's drying in the studio, with the sides of the canvas painted a dark vulcan grey.  (Framing is optional....it's wired, and ready to hang!)  The spice of turquoise offsets the muted pinks, whites and greys.  When you look up close you can see drawings in charcoal that come and go.  I named this abstract Cotton Candy because it of the shades of pink...and it was so much fun to create!  Thanks for looking at my blog..Kay

On My Easel.....

On my easel...
I don't know where I am going with this canvas, but I decided I wanted to paint big and colorful.  So I pulled out a 36" x 48" canvas and covered it with a zingy green---it is so bright that it hurts your eyes.  Then I started drawing with charcoal, and looked at the left-over paint on my palette.  It was fun just painting for the sake of painting.  I hope that I can continue on this canvas today.  Thanks for visiting my blog.  Kay

Dancer

Dancer
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Equine Painting
I loved the painting process for Dancer, which was inspired by a photograph taken at my nephew's horse show.  This painting is ready for a new home....contact Kay for more information on this contemporary equine painting.  And while I am thinking about equine art...we just got back from Charleston, SC where I found lots of wonderful subject matter to paint.....I love the horse and carriage rides through the streets, as in this pic:
And, of course the architecture is fabulous.....the old and the not so old, but buildings with lots of character and soul.  The southern charm of Charleston is something that everyone should experience....it was great!
Walking the beach is always wonderful....you see so many people.  Here Jackson is walking Rob.  I was missing my easel and paints when we were beaching it...maybe next trip can be a painting trip!
And we were able to spend some time with old friends and family!  Great trip.  I hope to work on some new paintings inspired by this trip.
Thanks for looking at my blog....have a great day!  Kay

Out On A Limb by Kay Wyne

Out On A Limb
12" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This contemporary oil painting is fun and colorful.  All five songbirds are perched out on a limb, doing their own thing.  The size of this canvas is unusual...12" x 36" landscape is pretty long and narrow, and would great in a den, office or hallway.  It has a punch of color and would be a great addition to any wall or bookcase.  Contact Kay for purchasing information.  Thanks for looking at the art posted here...Kay

Fair Park

Fair Park
10" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Plein Air Painting
Location was the Automobile Building,
Fair Park in Dallas, Texas
Today's painting for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days.

Here is my set-up at the park.  I wanted the statue to
be the focal point of the painting.  I usually put more
paint on the canvas, but I was trying to lay out the
building and get the the architecture somewhat
correct.  It was a beautiful clear day....and I amped
up the color of the sky a little bit.  Anyone who knows
me knows that BLUE is my favorite color.

Three Is A Crowd

Three Is A Crowd
18" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting
I was in the mood for boats...and a #12 Filbert.  So I got my paints out and started sketching with the paint.  Here is a pic when I was laying the shapes out.  I had a photograph from last year's trip to Maine that I used for reference.

And then I started pushing the paint around.  I did not use any medium, so the paint is very thick.  The best part is that I painted pretty fast...I was able to work this painting in one session.

I kept layering the paint on.  I don't know why, but after I finished this painting, I immediately started a commission....another boat painting!  I can't post my progress on that one because it is a gift for someone, and I will have to wait until it is finished and shipped to Chicago.  Thanks for looking at my blog and the art posted here.  Contact me if you are interested in this painting....kay@kwyne.com.  Have a good day.....Kay

Palette Knife Landscape - Untitled - Sold

Contemporary Landscape
20" x 24" Oil on RayMar Panel
Palette Knife Painting
Sold
I usually photograph my paintings without a frame, but decided to change it up this time.  This is a really heavy frame with some brass details along the inside of the moulding...very handsome.  I remember painting this, and I really got into the movement and let the palette knife do all the work.  I sold this painting two weeks ago, but need give it a name, varnish and ship to Minnesota.  Thanks for looking at my art.  I have two new paintings that I was able to complete yesterday.  They are drying at the studio.  Look for them on tomorrow's blog.  Thanks, Kay

Funky Chicks

Funky Chicks
20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting
I just signed and completed this painting yesterday at the studio.
I may have one or two more strokes to add, but it is drying for now.
The mood hit me that I needed to paint a rooster or chicken and explore with
color, shapes and lines.  I am getting back into the swing of painting after being away from the easel for a month.  Thanks for viewing....Kay

Neck and Neck

Neck and Neck
Today is Derby day....so I am posting this oil painting.
Last night's reception at the Omni Hotel was great as I met lots of people and showed about 25 pieces of my oil paintings.  Tonight's event should be alot of fun as John and I are attending Wine of the Roof, an event benefiting homeless pets at East Lake Pet Orphanage.  I am off to the studio to paint.  Have a great day!  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art posted here.
