Dancer

Dancer
Contemporary Equine Painting
30" x 30" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
My inspiration for this painting was a photograph of my nephew riding at a horse show several years ago.  I loved the shape of the horse's head and her coloring.  I just varnished this piece, so it will be ready to find a new home.  Contact Kay for more information at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.  Thanks.  Kay

Cross My Heart

Cross My Heart
60" x 20" Oil on Linen Gallery Wrap
This size canvas is really cool.  It is very vertical, and if you have the right wall space, this canvas might work for you.  The paints were applied with a palette knife, so there is alot of texture on the linen.  I have purposely left the natural linen peaking through, giving the eye a rest.  Thanks for viewing this blog....kay@kwyne.com.

Path To Heaven

Path To Heaven
48" x 48" Original Oil on Heavy Duty Canvas/Gallery Wrap
Contemporary Landscape
This is a neat size canvas.  It is large enough to go over a sofa, or just the right size for a medium to large wall space.  I really focused on the color palette for this painting.  It is natural for me to use vibrant, bold and contrasting colors when I paint.  I wanted a natural, harmonious, and earthy color scheme.  I was wanting to jazz it up with some blues, purples, reds and turquoise.  But to achieve a calm mood, I kept the colors under control.  The first thing I did was to paint in blocks of color with a very wide brush, then started layering in the mountains with a large palette knife.  I used two knifes for most of the application of paint.  It is layered on the canvas, and built up with lots of texture. Thanks for looking at this blog and my art.....Kay at kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325.

Chihuly comes to to Dallas!

Last week I was asked to help install the Chihuly Exhibit at the Dallas Arboretum.  The Chihuly staff is in Dallas for two weeks.  The photographs below are from day three.  My contribution was cutting open boxes and laying out glass for the installation.  It was amazing to see the team work together and the steps envolved.  It was a beautiful day.....here you see Paul with some major equipment.
This was just one of about 100 boxes with carefully packed glass.  I did not see one crack, chip or break while unpacking.  These crews are very organized and methodical.
In the photograph below, you can see Raven in his waders.  He was enjoying the wonderful Texas weather while installing the blue glass down in the water.
Paul in the forklift....random placement of the glass tubes was amazing to watch.
The installation is almost complete...I can't wait to return to the Dallas Arboretum to see the colorful sculptures in the gardens.
Thanks for viewing this blog....more painting tomorrow.  Kay

Finish Line - Sold

Finish Line
This contemporary 16" x 16" original oil painting is sold.  I had a request yesterday from a collector to see more equine subject matter, so I was revisiting some of my horsey paintings.  The intense colors and loose brush strokes give the painting energy and motion.  I will be painting plein air today and then in the studio to finish a landscape that is on my easel.  Thanks for viewing this blog....have an artful day.  Kay

Still on my easel....

This painting is not completed, but I wanted to look at it on the computer.  It is a change from my normal color palette, so I thought that I would take a few days to make some adjustments on the color and add more paint.  I am happy with the background, even though I do not like to put green in my paintings.  Thanks for viewing this blog...Kay

Dragonfly Dreaming

Dragonfly Dreaming
This contemporary abstract painting is drying right now at the studio. I may need to rephotograph it, because the colors are not as sharp as they should be. The oranges, violets and crimsons pop of the neutral background. Lines and shapes are painted with wide brush strokes, paint was moved by the palette knife, and oil sticks were used on the gallery wrap canvas. Thanks for viewing this art...Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.

Just Another Dream

Just Another Dream
60" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Linen
Contemporary Abstract Oil Painting
There are many shapes, colors and images in this contemporary abstract. The viewer's eye doesn't rest while looking at this painting....My inspiration for this painting was a dragonfly that John Wyne found in our yard...I guess you could say that I have started collecting dragonflies since I have a total of four. They are very interesting creatures. The picture below is a close-up of the dragonfly.
Thanks for viewing this blog. If you would like to purchase this painting, please contact Kay at kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325. Have an artful day....

Golden Dragonfly

Golden Dragonfly
36" x 18" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
This contemporary abstract is finally finished. I had started it about six months ago and it was one of those paintings that I did not feel like it was complete. I kept adding lines, shapes and color. The wings of the dragonfly disappeared into hard edges and angles. I can now say that Golden Dragonfly is ready to find a new home....contact Kay at kay@kwyne.com if you are interested in purchasing this original oil painting.

Happy Times

Happy Times
10" x 10" Oil on Gessoed Masonite
Palette Knife Painting
Here is another contemporary aspen painting. As I was posting it, I realized that it is appropriate to dedicate it to my husband, John. Today is John's birthday, and I wish him a Happy Birthday! Our children got busy in the Henry's kitchen last night and made three homemade pizzas for his birthday dinner....Wes was throwing the dough, Blake was chopping the veggies and meat, and Lindsay was putting it all together. She also baked a wonderful blackberry cobbler for desert. Happy Times for sure. Happy Birthday, John Wyne! Contact Kay for more information on this painting.....kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325. Thanks for viewing.

City Rooster moves to Fredericksburg

City Rooster
30" x 30" Oil on canvas, framed in gold leaf moulding.
City Rooster traveled this week to The Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Last weekend John and I met Mary Katherine Fickel, owner of The Good Art Company of Fredericksburg. She immediately was taken with my birds nest, rooster and chicken paintings. Mary Katherine had made a sale earlier in the day, and hung Only The Lonely in the gallery on the spot! I am excited to add The Good Art Company as a gallery representing my art.
Mary Katherine with Only The Lonely, an original palette knife painting. I am excited about my new relationship with a The Good Art Company, and wish Mary Katherine the best of luck for tonight's Art Walk. Thanks for viewing this blog and the art shown. Watching The Day

Watching The Day
6" x 8" Original Oil on Cotton Panel
This little palette knife painting needs a frame or easel. The vivid colors make the viewer's eye roam the painting. I hope to get to the studio today...I have several projects I am working on at home. Yesterday I worked on a rooster. The canvas is very wet, so letting it set for a day is a good thing. Thanks for viewing, Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.

Joyful Day

Joyful Day is a painting inspired by the tulips at the Dallas Arboretum. The tulips were out in full bloom during Dallas Blooms this spring. This 24" x 20" palette knife painting is on linen.
Last weekend John and I went to the Texas Hill Country and there were some amazing fields of flowers.....
Inspiring landscapes were everywhere!
Beautiful colors in this poppy field!
Brilliant fields of color!

You Color My World

You Color My World
8" x 16" Oil on Cotton Panel
This contemporary aspen painting is drying, and I will be getting it framed up. I will probably put a wide silver moulding on it. This color palette that I used has more green in it than I normally like to use. I was very careful not to get a muddy green when I was mixing colors. I wanted a clean and bright yellow-green that looks fresh and makes you think of springtime. I used the palette knife of this one. Thanks for looking at the art on this blog. Kay at kay@kwyne.com or 214-532-0325.

I sold one of these little gems last week, and shipped it off to North Carolina......thanks Shelly! John and I just returned from a weekend in the Hill Country....great weather, fun time and wonderful scenery. More on the trip later....thanks for viewing.

Wide Open Sky

Wide Open Sky
36" x 36" Original Oil on Heavy Duty Canvas
Contemporary Landscape Painting
This painting is a detour from most of my colorful paintings...and a bit calmer than most. I guess it was the mood that I was in that day. If you would like to view this painting, it is currently hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas. Thanks for viewing this blog...Kay
