Hip, Hip, Hooray!

Hip, Hip, Hooray!
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract

I give a big shout out to Interior Designer Lee Small, as she saw a photo of this painting and her response was, "Hip, Hip, Hooray!".  That grabbed me.  I asked her if I could use that for the title.  Of course she smiled, and said "yes", and she also told me it reminded her of the crowd at a TCU football game.

What do you see when you look at this painting?  I would be interested, because I saw a wildflower field when I was painting it.  My imagination took over and I focused on the act of painting and the color relationship through this painting journey.  I enjoyed it all the way!  Thanks for looking at this blog!  Contact Kay for more info.  Kay

Cousin Crew

Cousin Crew
10" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Our little grandsons love playing together...I took a photograph of them rolling around in the grass in Northern Michigan this past summer.  Peter and Little Charlie are sitting upright, and Ollie is flat on his back...they are all looking at something or someone as they are tackling the beach ball.  It's fun to watch them interact as they develop their own personalities.  Painting skin tones are tough, but my objective was to capture the fun and playful spirit of these cousins.  My favorite part of the painting is Ollie's scabby knee!  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

This painting is dry now, and at the studio.  It has some details that you may not be able to see---lots of spiney needles.  This was a fun painting...the prickly pear cactus has many interesting shapes and characteristics.  I used a brush and palette knife to apply the layers of color.  This painting is sold.  Contact Kay Wyne for more info.  Thanks, Kay

Fresh Pick

Fresh Pick
40" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
Variety is the spice of life!  With this painting I
made sure that there was variety in color, shapes, brush
technique, textures, values, and of course the wide range
of blooms.  Probably my most favorite flowers in the still life
are the sunflowers...I like the droopy and irregular
shapes that happen with the weight of the flower.  This
painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay for
more info.  Thanks for looking....KMW

Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy
40" x 40" Oil, Oil Bar and Charcoal on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
This large canvas went through a lot of changes over the past week...Layers of drawings, brushwork and scraping finally got me to the place where I felt like this abstract was finished. It's drying in the studio, with the sides of the canvas painted a dark vulcan grey.  (Framing is optional....it's wired, and ready to hang!)  The spice of turquoise offsets the muted pinks, whites and greys.  When you look up close you can see drawings in charcoal that come and go.  I named this abstract Cotton Candy because it of the shades of pink...and it was so much fun to create!  Thanks for looking at my blog..Kay

Meet Me At Cadillac Ranch

Meet Me At Cadillac Ranch
36" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Painting the iconic Cadillacs located outside
Amarillo, Texas turned out to be so much fun!
First go-around with the layout of the cars was too small so I drew
over it with a brush and made them larger than life.
There are layers and layers of paint, applied with a palette knife, brush,
scraper, and various wipe-out tools.  Pieces of the red-toned
canvas peak through---giving the painting a variety of
textures.  This painting is looking for a new home---contact
Kay for more information. Thanks for visiting my blog.  KMW
