Sun, Sand, and the Rock

Sun, Sand, and the Rock
20" x 24" Oil on Cotton Panel
Contemporary Seascape
This painting has a beautiful pewter/champaign frame on it, and is ready for a new home.  This rock is Up North and recognizable to many who frequent the beach on Lake Charlevoix each summer.  The rock has texture since it was painted with heavy oils and a palette knife.  In contrast, the sand on the beach is smooth and colorful.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Day After Fourth of July

Day After Fourth of July
16" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Plein Air Landscape
Sequanota Club, Charlevoix, Michigan
Up North the fourth of July is celebrated big-time...picnics, fireworks, swimming, boating, sailing, and lots of outdoor fun with friends and family.  The day after was quiet in comparison, but lovely.  I ventured down to the Klingbeil Cottage and painted outdoors.  The birch trees were beautiful with Lake Charlevoix in the background.  Here is a pic of myself painting en plein aire.
I am thrilled that this painting has a new home...in Ironton, Michigan.  It will be framed up and hang in a beautiful cottage not far from where I painted this panel.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  Artfully yours, Kay

Ki-Wa-Wi-Ka

Ki-Wa-Wi-Ka
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas
Summers in Northern Michigan are special.  The cottage that the Wyne family owned was charming and comfortable.  Ki-Wa-Wi-Ka (built in 1902) always looked like the same, summer after summer.  This painting brings back many memories...happy family times Up North.  I started this painting in 1995, and found it stashed away in the garage.  John urged me to finish it, so I took it to the studio to paint on it.  I am not sure, but it might be finished...I will let it sit and dry for a while.  After 23 years, I am glad that I was pushed to complete it.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Fourth of July by Kay Wyne

Fourth of July
8" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Ready to frame or simply stand on an easel.
Spending the Fourth of July Up North is so much fun.  The colors in the cottage flower box are in peak season.  I was able to paint en plain air, enjoying the fresh flowers and crisp clean air.  The box was over-flowing with cascading plants.  Thanks for looking at this blog...more paintings from Up North to come! This painting is hanging at Stonehenge Gardens in East Jordan, Michigan. Contact Kay Wyne for more information on the art posted here.  KMW

From The Porch

From The Porch
6" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Michigan Landscape Painting
I set my easel up on the front porch at the cottage in Michigan, overlooking Lake Charlevoix.  The Heroy's boat, Hemingway Point and some buoys are scattered in the water.  The color of the water changed on me because the sky was filled with clouds, with the sun popping in and out.  Contact Kay Wyne for more info on this painting.  Thanks for looking....more Michigan paintings coming!  Kay

Homegrown

Homegrown
Sold
8" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life Painting
Northern Michigan is beautiful in the summertime, and we just returned from a Charlevoix ten day family vacation. I took my easel, shipped my paints and had a grand time painting the landscape.Kay  The first day I arrived I found the most beautiful garden in the backyard of Chris Heroy's cottage.  I immediately went to visit her and get permission to set up in her yard.  Chris gave me a tour and snipped off some lovely homegrown roses and put in a beautiful antique glass jar. Here is a pic of Chris' roses.  Thank you to Gilda for purchasing "Homegrown"...this painting will have a new home in Little Rock, Arkansas!  Thanks for looking at this blog...more Michigan paintings are coming!  Contact Kay for more info on my art.  KMW

A Day To Remember

A Day To Remember
12" x 16" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
NSF - Commission
This painting is completed!  It was a commission, and I had a great time painting it.  The rocks were all done with the palette knife (my favorite part of the painting).  I started with a red-toned canvas, as the white surface was just too stark.  The reference photograph was somewhat different than how the painting turned out.  The sky and water were painted in with a bright brush, and although I did not want to get detailed with the fence and lighthouse, I had to be somewhat accurate on the proportions.  I want the viewer to know that the waves are strong and powerful.....bashing up against the rocks.  This is my post for the 25th day of the 30-30 Challenge.  I am off to paint today at The Dutch Art Gallery....stop by if you are in the neighborhood.  Kay

The Point

The Point
32" x 32" Palette Knife Painting
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting started out as a very simple seascape. My inspiration for this painting was a photograph of Harbor Springs, Michigan. The photograph was of the beautiful sky, Lake Michigan and Harbor Point. My painting went a little abstract, but I see the water, sand, sky and the point. This painting has a lot of texture since I applied layers and layers of paint with the knife. It is drying at the studio, and when I look at this painting, it reminds me how special our summer in Northern Michigan were. Thanks for viewing this blog and my art. Have a great weekend! Stay cool. Kay
