Contemporary Landscape  

On a recent Texas Hill Country trip, I found myself taking a early morning walk.  The sun was coming up, and the shadows were laying across this road, with view that was breathtaking.  I could see forever.  I was standing at the top of the hill, looking down the winding road.  I new it would make a great setting for a painting.  I focused on the light hitting the cactus and the long shadows falling across the road and hitting the rugged trees and shrubs.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog...contact Kay with any comments or questions.  KMW

Spending time in the rugged mountains and desert of Arizona is a change of pace for me.  I soaked in the sun and the landscape, painting the wide open sky with the mountains in the background. Peaceful started out as a larger canvas... 18" x 18".  I cropped it down to 12" x 16" and I am much happier with the composition.  I had painted in two Herefords in the foreground and I struggled with them....they looked chalky and out of place, disrupting the flow of the painting.  So my solution to that problem was to cut them out!  The oils were put down with a palette knife, creating texture and various shapes and marks into the paint.  This painting is available....contact Kay for more information.  Thanks, KMW

This is a studio painting that I finished up last week.  Using a color palette that has some warm ochres and transparent earth yellows, the field is scattered with colorful wildflowers.  As the viewer's eye see the cad reds, violets and cad yellows in the foreground, they eye wanders to the horizon.  I enjoyed process of painting this one.  This floral landscape will be entered in a juried art exhibit this month...Thanks for looking at my painting....Kay

I started this landscape several years ago...and it was inspired by a photograph that my husband, John Wyne took.  I have taken liberties with the image, and made it mine.  I really like the road, but changed up the colors.  We have an enlarged photograph framed up in our home...it was a neat scene.  This is my interpretation of the landscape....oil on canvas.  Contact ME

This painting needs a handsome frame.  

This palette knife painting has gone through many changes, with layers and layers of color.  I moved and pushed the paint around, changed the colors, changed the horizon line and the path.  It was a misty and moody day in Dallas...and I saw alot of the greys, lavenders and the start of spring green when I painted this.  It has an impressionistic feel to it.  I don't know how long it will take to dry, even with the impasto.....but I think it will look nice framed up.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog.....Kay

On my easel....

Yesterday was a painting day and I pulled out a 16" x 20" RayMar panel and some wide brushes.  I hope to work on this guy some more today.  My reference photo for this painting was taken in Illinois a couple of years ago.  More painting today....thanks for looking...KMW
