Contemporary Landscape Painting
Peaceful started out as a larger canvas... 18" x 18". I cropped it down to 12" x 16" and I am much happier with the composition. I had painted in two Herefords in the foreground and I struggled with them....they looked chalky and out of place, disrupting the flow of the painting. So my solution to that problem was to cut them out! The oils were put down with a palette knife, creating texture and various shapes and marks into the paint.
