Just Waiting

Just Waiting
36" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Seascape Painting
This funky old rusted out dinghy is pulled up to the rocky Maine shoreline.  I have painted this scene several times, and this painting is my favorite because of the palette knife work.  If you look closely, the rusty surface on the dinghy has texture, and the rocks in the shallow end of the water are thick and chunky. This painting is available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

Extravagant Ways

Extravagant Ways
Oil and Oil Stick on 40" x 40" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Floral
I love painting on large square canvases.  Extravagant Ways is a mixed media piece because I used charcoal, oils, and oil bars.  Using the willow charcoal stick, I scraped into the layered oil when it was wet.  I enjoyed experimenting with different color combos as I worked my way through the painting.  The asymmetrical design and irregular shapes gives the imagination a chance to go to work.  Contact Kay for more info on this original painting.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  KMW

Colour My World

Colour My World
(Thank you, Liz for naming this one!)
16" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Landscape/Palette Knife Painting
Thick layers of paint applied with the palette knife cover this panel.  Texture is the result, and it will take a long time for this one to dry. The colors on my palette were left over from a floral painting...and I had mixed so much paint up that I started this abstract landscape.  I was glad that Liz told me she was traveling on a road trip, listening to Chicago's song, "Colour My World" when she saw this painting post on my blog earlier this month.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Thick layers of paint applied with the palette knife cover this panel.  Texture is the result, and it will take a long time for this one to dry. The colors on my palette were left over from a floral painting...and I had mixed so much paint up that I started this abstract landscape.  I need to come up with a name for it...and give it time to dry.  It will look great in a silver or champagne frame.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

On my easel...

On My Easel...
Still life in progress.
This panel is cut down to a 16" x 16" size.  I cut up my fingers as I was attempting to simply cut the panel down.  Sounds like an easy task, but cutting my finger with the razor blade slowed the process down.  I should be able to complete this next session in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Deb's Find

Deb's Find
8" x 8" x 2" Oil on Cradleboard
Contemporary Still Life
This ceramic pot was beautiful.  It was spotted by Deb on our recent trip to Greece, sitting in a window sill with lots of warm light hitting the pot and the leaves.  Deb gets the credit spotting it, and taking a photo of it.  I couldn't wait to paint it once I got back into the studio.  Here's my version of the ceramic pot, thanks to Deb for finding it, and taking the pic.  Thanks for looking...have an artful day!  Kay

High Hopes

High Hopes
36" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting
This canvas is on my easel, and I do think it is finished.  It was a fun one, because it started as a challenge from a studio mate.  She had a rubber stamp and painted her version of what the black and white graphic would look like, then I did the same.
Here is the graphic, and my canvas about half way through the painting.  I hope that more of my art friends will take on this challenge, and see that our painting styles are as different as our personalities!

"Sunny Day" is drying in the studio.  Once it is dry and varnished, it will be ready for a new home.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Color Of Summer
Sold
10" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
I don't remember when I painted this one, but it has been framed up in a contemporary floater and hanging in my kitchen for a year or so...until Lee Small of Lee Small Fine Art asked to see it for a client.  Lee took it to a client's lake house, but did not return with it!  Thank you Lee for finding a wonderful home for "Color Of Summer".  I have some new sunflowers on my easel...I hope to post those tomorrow.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Have an artful day...Kay

Beached ---- Sold!

Beached
SOLD!
12" x 12" Oil on Museum Quality Panel
Contemporary Landscape
This is my first piece that I painted when we returned from our fabulous trip to Greece.  John and I were walking along the beach on Naxos, and came across this old boat that was beached.  I immediately took a pic, and wanted to paint it.  The boat was cool--- it was colorful, weathered, and had lots of character.  I am thrilled that Lee Small found the perfect forever home for this painting!  Thank you, Lee!  Thanks for looking, KMW

Jewel Box

Jewel Box
60" x 48" x 2"
Contemporary Abstract
O.K. it's been created.  It was fun, it was good, and lots of conversation about this canvas....It has been decided to hang it vertically.  It now has a name....  Thank you, Selena.  My intentions were good, but my path was misunderstood as I painted away on this large canvas.  Here it is, Jewel Box.  I think it is colorful, interesting and fun.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions....thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Island Chapel

Island Chapel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
12" x 12" Oil on Museum Quality Panel
Photo reference credit:  Jim Devers
The chapels in the Cyclades were amazing...and this one was perched on top of rocks on an island directly across from the island of Naxos where our villa was located.  I was told that you boat over to the island, walk up the steps to the chapel from the shoreline.  Special services are held on Greek Easter on this island. Every morning I would wake up to this view---it was amazing.  Thanks to Jim for taking the early morning photo!  Getting the blues right in the sky and water is what I focused on, and then I used a palette knife to put the rugged mountains and rocks.  This painting is all framed up and ready for a new home!    Contact Kay for more info.  KMW

Posies For You

Posies For You
8" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life - Alla Prima
This small still life was painted alla prima (painted in one setting, start to finish).  I used one brush, lots of oils and painted each stroke deliberately, and did not go back into the canvas and get fussy.  Once this dries, I will frame it up and it will be ready for a new home!  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Just For You

Just For You
6" x 6" Oil on Linen Panel
Alla Prima
Contemporary Still Life
I have been on a floral still life kick lately in the studio.  Here's yesterday's painting, and it is super wet.  I piled on the oils, pushing and pulling the thick paint over the smooth linen surface.  I have a beautiful frame for this one...contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Sunflowers For You

Sunflowers For You
8" x 6" Oil on Panel
Alla Prima
For me, the vase was just as important as the sunflowers in this small painting. I wanted to ceramic vase to glow.  With very few brushstrokes, I wanted to put on canvas just how beautiful the vase was.  This painting is drying in the studio, and I do have a beautiful frame for it.  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay
