I was commissioned by one of my collectors to paint the McDowell Mountain Regional Park located in Scottsdale, Arizona.  The painting will hang in the living room of their condo, with the mountain range as the view out their big window and patio.  I know it will look great all framed up and hanging in it's new home!  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Yosemite, Four Mile Trail, May 2021

Yosemite, Four Mile Trail, May 2021
Commission/NFS
20" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I can post this painting now that it has been gifted to Alex, the runner in the painting.  His father wanted to give him something special for his birthday, and when he saw the photo of him running on this trail, he knew to call me!  I believe that Alex gets the photo credit, as he had set his phone up with a timer to take the photograph that I used as my inspiration.  Thanks for looking at my blog, and Happy Birthday to Alex!  KMW

Reflections by Kay Wyne

Reflections
Commission - Sold
36" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This commission is has been framed up and is hanging in a Texas church!  The harbor, lighthouse and sailboats all were requested by the designer to be a part of this painting.  Painting the reflections in gave the water interest and movement.  I used a palette knife, a plastic wedge, and some wide, flat brushes to apply the paint.  I can't wait to see this painting in it's new home!  Thanks for looking at my art, and feel free to contact me with any questions concerning commissions.  Have an artful day, Kay

Stand Tall by Kay Wyne

Stand Tall
NFS
6" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting was given to one of my collectors...since he lives Up North, I thought that the contemporary birch trees would be the perfect subject matter for his home or condo.  Stand Tall is a palette knife painting with dynamic color and texture.  It's always great to see my paintings after they leave my studio.  Here is a pic of Jim with "Herself".
It was hard to get a good pic of the commissioned piece because the outside light shining into the living space was so bright.  Here you can see Round Lake through the window.  What a beautiful setting---my paintings look fabulous in Jim's condo!
Thanks for looking at my blog...If you would like more information on my art or a commissioned work of art, please contact ME.  Thanks, Kay

Dawn Stroll at White Rock - Sold

"Dawn Stroll at White Rock"
Sold
60" x 60" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Impressionistic Landscape Painting
This painting is a commission that I have been working on for the last month.  It is going to it's home this week!  I can't wait to see it installed in the new Dallas home.  I have a few pics of the painting process, starting with the collector's photograph.  That was the inspiration for the painting.

The photo taken by the collectors while on a morning walk.  I used the photograph as a starting point, not wanting to copy it, but to paint my own interpretation in my own style of the sun rising at the lake.
I toned the BIG canvas with transparent oils.  60" x 60" is so big that I had to work on the ladder at times.  It was a good thing that I had purchased huge amounts of paint before I started this painting.

Here I started with laying in my paints.  With the oils I needed to get my darks in and work on establishing the horizon line.  I was wanting to achieve a good balance of abstraction and  representation in this painting, as I worked with Karen Parks, with Associate Interiors and her clients.
Everyday I would go into the studio and mix, mix, mix colors - wanting to achieve a harmonious painting when it comes to the colors.
Once I got some paint on the canvas, I would use brushes, knives and other tools to move the paint around.  I used some plastic tools used for ceramics to move the paint around.
The painting changed daily.  Once I started putting the tall grass in the foreground, I realized that my horizon was lost.  So I went back in and reworked that area.  Used lots of paint and knife.
The water had reflections and I wanted to get those in, but also make the body of water interesting.  There are some variations in the lines and brush strokes in the water...I don't know that the photograph really picks them up.
Still working on the horizon, not wanting to put lots of detail in it.  I believe the photograph had some lights, and homes in the distance. All I wanted to do is imply the layers of the shoreline, trees and sky melting in the distance.
Here is a close-up of the horizon.
Close-up of the sky.
The tall grass was so much fun to paint.  I cut loose on that, making the blades of grass different colors, sizes and shapes.  Lots of layers, using a palette knife.
More sky and palette knife work.  Once the painting was approved, the sides of the canvas were painted Portland Grey Dark, then it was varnished.  That's a short summary of how this painting, "Dawn Stroll at White Rock" was created and evolved.  I enjoyed working with  Karen Parks, ASID with Associate Interiors and the collectors to create a piece of art that will hang in the contemporary home, near White Rock Lake.

P.S.  Here is an update:  "Dawn Stroll at White Rock" was installed yesterday....and here is a pic of Karen, myself and Kristy.

Launch Into The Blue - Sold

Launch Into The Blue
20" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Commission
Contemporary Seascape Painting
It's another boat painting for a Northern Michigan boater and collector of art---capturing the waves and excitement of being a part of the Boyne Thunder Race in July.  This beautiful boat is making it's way through the channel in Charlevoix, Michigan out into Lake Michigan.  I wanted to capture the colorful crowd, the neat lighthouse and the captain of boat - Jim - on canvas.  This painting is drying in the studio, and will be varnished before it is shipped Up North!  Painting this image really made me anxious for summertime and the Michigan beach.  Thanks for looking at this blog...If you would like to talk to me about a commissioned painting, contact ME.  Thanks, Kay

Turkey Commission - Sold

Turkey Commission
24" x 26" Oil on Linen Gallery Wrap
This painting was commissioned by a Mimi-----she contacted me this summer and wanted a painting with a couple of turkeys.  Mimi had seen some of my rooster and chicken paintings and wanted a painting for her home in New Hampshire.  It was fun working with her and creating this piece for her home, and a gift to her husband.  Sometimes you need a little "push" to paint something different...and this painting did that.  I had not painted turkeys before....and learned alot about them when researching them.  Thanks for viewing this blog, and thanks to Mimi!!!  To see more of my art, visit my website at www.kwyne.com.

Beach Bums

Beach Bums...A commission that has been delivered. It is an oil painting on a 12" x 12" gallery wrap canvas. This painting was inspired by a photograph of the ocean while a couple was sitting on the beach. I loved this picture, and when the couple got engaged, sweet Sarah asked me to paint it so she could give to Taylor as a wedding gift. So, here it is, and Taylor and Sarah are married, moved in a new apartment on the east coast and starting a new life together. Congratulations to Sarah and Taylor! Kay
