Inviting

Inviting
24" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Thick layers of paint cover the canvas, giving it color and texture.  My inspiration for this painting was a field of aspens in Evergreen, Colorado.  Sharon and I stayed on a working ranch, and had plenty of wildlife and beautiful landscape to paint.  Here is a pic of the painting in progress:
I painted the sky, foreground and trees with a large brush, then went into the painting with the palette knife and lots of paint.  In the end I punched it up with more color.  This is day 19 in the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge with Leslie Saeta.   Thanks for looking....contact Kay for more info on this painting.  I hope to be back in the studio....I have an abstract that I am working on for tomorrow's post. Color My World

Color My World
8" x 16" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Abstract Aspens
This painting is hanging at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, TX.
I liked the size of the RayMar panel that I used in the painting, along with the fun and bold colors.  There is alot of texture on this painting since I used a palette knife.

Colorful Clouds

Colorful Clouds
36" x 18" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Original Palette Knife Painting on Heavy Duty Canvas
This medium-size canvas will look great in a room with a long and narrow vertical space. The deep vibrant colors are bouncing around....you can't tell where the clouds start and the landscape ends. The trees and leaves have thick strokes of paint...giving it a lot of texture. Please contact me if you are interested in one of my contemporary aspen paintings. Thanks for viewing this blog. Wild For You

Wild For You
30" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Palette Knife Painting
Lots of color falling around these abstract aspens! Deep plums, blues, hot pink, warm reds to cool blues and vibrant greens and yellow are all over this canvas. It took a long time for this one to dry because of the thick application of the paint. Thanks for viewing this blog, and if you would like to purchase any of my art, please feel free to contact me.

Tall Aspens

Contemporary Oil Painting
Tall Aspens/Palette Knife Painting
This painting is traveling to Santa Fe today. It is a 12" x 48" heavy duty gallery wrap canvas.
Kind of chunky, and a different size.....for a long, vertical space. It has thick oils on it, giving it texture. I am thinking about a name for this painting...if you have any suggestions, send them my way. I am painting at the studio all day, making progress on some commissions. Have a great day!

Aspens - Diptych

Contemporary Aspens Diptych
SOLD
48" x 60" (Two 48" x 30" canvases)
Oil Palette Knife Painting
I loved painting this diptych...it was on Heavy Duty Canvas. This was a commission for a collector in Plano, Texas. I put a zig-zag dark path in the background so that the eye moves around the canvas. The color palette needed to be fall colors...no pinks, blues, purples. (I really had to watch myself on the colors....I can get carried away on it sometimes!!!) I needed the canvas to make a statement. I wanted the painting to be bold, beautiful and pleasing to the eye, with aspens being large, imposing and interesting. This palette knife painting has lots of texture. Loads of paint on this canvas. This diptych now hangs on a very large wall with high ceilings above a beautiful leather sofa. Looks great...I will be taking a pic of this in it's new home. It is amazing how art looks in the studio, then when it is placed in a lovely home it just glows... I am thrilled that this painting has a new home!!!

Finished! I have several other paintings at the studio that I am working on...if you look closely you can see some other images other than the aspens. Aspens in Color

Aspens in Color
12" x 12" Oil on Masonite
This painting is hanging at the The Dutch Art Gallery. This small painting is only 12" x 12". I was talking to a lady who was interested in this painting....and she was drawn to it because of the colors. I told her that if the painting speaks to her, that is reason enough to consider purchasing. I have four other aspen paintings hanging at Dutch Art in the show. I was amazed at the wonderful art...really good art at the show. If you missed the reception yesterday, here is the show info:

Aspen Landscape-SOLD

Aspens Landscape
SOLD!
8" x 8" Oil on Canvas
Palette Knife Painting
Aspen trees......we don't have them in Dallas. (And we don't have mountains either.) We didn't have in them in Illinois. They are beautiful, and on our last trip to Santa Fe I really started noticing them and wanting to paint them. As I was looking through some of my Santa Fe pics and some of daughter Lindsay's Jackson Hole pics I realized how neat they were. Here is my first attempt at painting aspens. I need to study them and really figure out what is so different about these trees. Wes Henry told me he learned alot about them from Raymond Harris while visiting Jackson Hole last summer. They tend to grow in clumps, sharing the same roots. The aspen tree, also known as quaking aspen or Populus tremuloides, is from the willow family. It is a fast-growing but short-lived tree. I need to research this. Anyway, here is my painting.....
