Peonies, Fruit, and Fabric by Kay Wyne

Peonies, Fruit, and Fabric
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
I loved painting these peonies.  They were big and full, loose and colorful.  The background, apples and ceramic pitcher were more challenging than the flowers.  I was using a some new paints...Classic Oils, which I found to be very juicy and I liked the way I could move the paint around on the canvas.  It wasn't thick and gummy, it had the consistency of sour cream.  Concentrating on the shadows and the reflections, I was painting this still life in the Sahli Studio in Evergreen, Colorado.  Don is a wonderful artist and had some interesting set-ups in the studio.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  This painting is framed in a dark moulding with gold lip.  Thanks for looking....Kay

On My Easel...

On My Easel....
Contemporary Oil Painting
First layer of paint...and not sure if it will be a horizontal or vertical format.  The heavy duty canvas is 30" x 40" x 2 1/2".  A great size.  Because of the deep stretcher bars, it is chunky and thick.  I got the magenta and cad yellow out to tone the canvas.  I am always excited with the first step of my paintings....I will post what I decide to do with it.  It could be an abstract, a still life, a landscape....not sure at this stage of the game.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Best of the Bunch

Best of the Bunch
Contemporary Floral Still Life Painting
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
18 1/2" x 18 1/2" Total Frame Size
I finished this painting at the studio, and popped it in this beautiful frame.  It is a seamless (no mitered corners) and is slightly distressed with a satin finish.  There are so many shades of corals, pinks, greys and greens in this painting.  I used a flat brush to apply the oils.  Contact Kay Wyne for purchasing information.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

Peonies, Fruit and Fabric

Peonies, Fruit and Fabric
20" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
Framed in a simple gold but elegant frame, this still life painting is full of interesting flowers, ceramics, fabric and fruit.  The light hitting the peonies are as dramatic as the cast shadows.  I remember painting this...I thought the set-up was so beautiful.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.  Thanks, Kay

Big Guy

Big Guy
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster
This palette knife painting is fun, colorful and has lots of texture.  You can see the layers of paint, as it was applied with a knife.  You can't help but want to put your hands over the surface and feel the chunks of paint.  The paint is also on the sides of the stretcher bars, so framing is optional.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Out On A Limb

Out On A Limb
12" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This contemporary oil painting is colorful and happy...these five songbirds are gathered on a limb.  I enjoyed painting this although the format of the canvas was a challenge...12" x 36" is not my regular size canvas, and I had to be careful not to place the birds in a straight line across the horizontal canvas.  This painting is ready to go to a gallery next week.  Thanks for looking at my art....Kay

Out On A Limb

Out On A Limb
12" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Bird Painting by Kay Wyne
Hot off my easel....below you can see the progression as I placed the birds and limbs with a rough painting.  I wanted to placement to allow the viewer's eye to roam around and go from bird to bird.
Once I get the general placement of the subject matter on the canvas, I block in colors.  Using large brushes, I can cover lots of space quickly.
More color, not alot of details yet.  Layers and layers of oils go on....
More paint and more paint.  I wanted a colorful and painterly piece...more paint.
And More color...setting the eyes in the birds were some of the last touches.  More layers especially in the nest, but trying to stay loose with my strokes.
Thanks for looking at the art posted here....more painting tomorrow.  It is fun to go into the studio and paint whatever I am in the mood to paint!  These songbirds were colorful and something different for me.  There might be more bird paintings for the 30 Paintings/30 Days!  Kay

Sitting on my easel.....Happy New Year

On my easel...
This small painting is sitting on my easel with along with five other paintings....all are in different stages, all need some time and attention.  I hope to get in the studio today and get at least one of the paintings finished.  I am also wanting to start a 30 day painting challenge tomorrow, so I need to get organized for that.  If you would like to join in on this challenge, go to Leslie Saeta's blog and sign up.  I still haven't decided what my theme is going to be for my paintings...I have all day to think about it.  I also need to get ready to go back to the commission that Sharon and I are collaborating on.  We have had a break from that big project during the holidays.  So, with 2013 here, I have plans for a creative, productive and fun year.  I hope that you all have a happy and healthy 2013!  Happy New Year to everyone, and thanks for looking at this blog.  KMW

Maggie

Maggie
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar panel
This was a small demo that I did a few weeks ago, I wanted to touch it up in the studio, but decided not to.  I knew that if I got the brushes out and started working on a couple of things that I would end up over-painting or simply repainting the whole doggie.  So, it is complete!  Have a great day.  I hope to be in the studio later today painting on a large canvas just for the fun of it...Kay at kay@kwyne.com

I See Everything

I See Everything
Oil on Canvas

This 18" x 36" Gallery Wrap Canvas has the image of the pig coming off the canvas as if he was walking towards you.  I used a very wide brush to apply the oils.  His eyes are hidden by his big, floppy ears, but he could see, therefore the title, I See Everything.  My inspiration for this painting was a pig that I photographed on a recent trip to Illinois.  Thanks for viewing this blog and my art...Kay

Piggy Wiggy

Piggy Wiggy
18" x 18" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting
I had to paint this piggy that I saw scampering around at an Amish farm in Illinois a couple of weeks ago....he had a great shape, wonderful coloring, and ran around the farm with an attitude.  I think he was in charge.....this pig was running loose, checking out the horses, cattle, and sheep.  I don't know if he had broken out of his pen, but when he can running towards me I hopped back into the car.  I wanted Piggy Wiggy on a square canvas because of his stockiness.  It was intentional to have him painted off the canvas to imply his size and give interest to the painting.  Thanks for viewing this blog and the art posted.  Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com

Rooster Times Four-On my easel

Rooster Times Four - sitting on my easel
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I am working on this large piece...and painted into the evening yesterday on it.  I was afraid that I would overwork it, so I stopped to photograph.  I wanted all four roosters different, but the same in size and eyes.  I am planning on giving each rooster a pop of color, eyes, and maybe some small detail for the beaks.  I hope to post the finished painting tomorrow.  Thanks for viewing.  Kay at kay@kwyne.com.
