The Bridge

The Bridge
48" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Landscape Painting
Painting familiar places in Dallas is fun for me, and this location is very close to our home.  This bridge is located at White Rock Lake.  I drove over to the lake one morning and liked the layers of grass that surrounded the bridge that carries many bikers, walkers and runners.  After photographing the bridge, I went straight to the studio, wanting to capture the beauty of the lake.  The layers paint were applied with a palette knife, giving the canvas texture.  Contact Kay for more information on "The Bridge".  Thanks for looking at my blog.  KMW

Dallas Days

Dallas Days
36" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Cityscape
Inspired by a plein air experience at White Rock Lake, I decided that I would go with a large canvas --- 36" x 48" in the studio.  The subject matter was the same, with the Dallas skyline in the background, White Rock Lake and the tall grass on the hill in the foreground. Wide brushstrokes and palette knife work were used to create this cityscape.  This painting is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  KMW

White Rock Lake Plein Air by Kay Wyne

White Rock Lake in January
12" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
January in Dallas can be dicie, icie and just plain miserable when it comes to painting outside.  But yesterday was such a clear, warm and sunny day that I set out to paint at White Rock Lake with a friend.  We were perched in a very area of the lake, overlooking the water and land and the Dallas skyline.  We had a great day, and after an hour and a half, we had our paintings.
Here is my set-up overlooking the lake and the skyline in the far away distance.
Here is a pic of the lake view that I painted.  I wanted to capture the crisp clean feeling of the day....even though it was January the colors were not the best.  I can't wait to go back to the same location when it is warm and the flowers are out.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art.  Contact Kay for purchasing info.

Fair Park

Fair Park
10" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Plein Air Painting
Location was the Automobile Building,
Fair Park in Dallas, Texas
Today's painting for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days.

Here is my set-up at the park.  I wanted the statue to
be the focal point of the painting.  I usually put more
paint on the canvas, but I was trying to lay out the
building and get the the architecture somewhat
correct.  It was a beautiful clear day....and I amped
up the color of the sky a little bit.  Anyone who knows
me knows that BLUE is my favorite color.

Waiting

Waiting
8" x 10" Oil on Linen
This sweet little lamb was standing at Heritage Village in downtown Dallas.
There were four or five lambs standing in the fenced-in lot staring at the people and cars...as if they were waiting on something or someone. They had a statuesque quality about them.  I did not use a painting medium, so the oils are thick on the linen, giving it some texture.  It will take a while for this one to dry.  If you are interested in purchasing this painting, contact Kay at kay@kwyne.com.  Thanks for viewing....Happy Fourth of July!  KMW

On my easel...

Sitting on my easel is this small 9" x 12" oil painting on linen.  I was getting organized yesterday at the studio and was trying to make some decisions on a large painting that has been bothering me for weeks.  So I decided to switch gears and paint a quick 45 minute painting without any medium.  I also told myself that I would use one brush and one knife.  I love painting fast.  No fiddling, no going back in to change details.  There is so much paint on the surface that I couldn't sign it.  I hope to add one or two more strokes of paint, then it will be finished.  The reference photo for the sheep was taken at Heritage Village in downtown Dallas.  Right now the sheep are sheered for the summer and don't have their thick curly coat.  Thanks for viewing.  I hope to have this guy signed and finished today.  Kay

En Plein Air at Fair Park by Kay Wyne

Painting around Dallas...at Fair Park
Here is yesterday's painting at Fair Park with the Tutti i Lunedi group.  I did not finish, which I really wish I would of pushed myself to do, putting some finishing touches and small amounts of detail.  I doubt that I will work on it in the studio.  The grounds at Fair Park are open year round, and it is a great place to paint.  I started with a small sketch, started applying the paint with a flat brush.  Then used my palette knife.  As usual had issues with the greens in the monkey grass and bushes.  I had to amp up the colors in the building and sky just because I like color.  I really liked the RayMar panel I was painting on....new size for me...12" x 10", which is much better than the 6" x 8" or 8" x 8" panels.  I have some new work in the studio...will post those later.  Thanks for viewing this blog.  Kay at kay@kwyne.com
