Pretty Petals

Pretty Petals
6" x 6" Oil on Linen Panel
Contemporary Floral
I was so excited to buy some new brushes, and this small floral was painted with one of them.  It was small Princeton Dakota/Flat brush.  I loaded the brush with lots of paint...and made every stroke count on this small panel.  It was fun playing and experimenting with a brush that I normally don't use.  These peonies are drying in the studio...contact Kay for more info on this small floral.  Thank you!  KMW

Free Falling

Free Falling
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral
Inspired by beautiful Michigan peonies, I photographed the blooms when they were "on their way out".  I tossed them up in the air, and let them fall every which way. The shapes and colors were what I painted!  "Free Falling" is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking...and Happy 4th of July!  KMW

On The Porch

On The Porch
12" x 16" Oil on Panel
Contemporary Still Life
It's summertime on the front porch, looking at the lake with some fresh peonies blooming.  A typical Michigan day, filled with sunshine and lovely colors.  This painting was painted just after we returned from Charlevoix, Michigan.  It's a reminder just how beautiful Up North is.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks, KMW

Garden Party

Garden Party
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral
Michigan peonies painted in my Texas studio.  We just returned from Northern Michigan, and the peonies were peaking when we arrived.  They were stunning, and I couldn't wait to paint them.  I wanted to capture the full blooms, bursting with color and energy.  The colors were magnificent, changing daily.  I appreciate friends Donna and Suzy allowing me to pick their mother's beautiful peonies...I truly enjoyed them, and hope to paint more of them in the future.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Happy Fourth of July!

Always Changing

Always Changing
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Panel
Contemporary Still Life
As my bouquet of peonies changed each day, I would rearrange and put them in different vases.  The colors were amazing, but fading a little bit each day.  Petals were fragile and falling, even as I stood at my easel painting them.  This painting is drying in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Unforgettable

Unforgettable
20" x 16" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Last week I received a sweet surprise from my cousin Doug and his family.  Peonies!  I couldn't wait to get them to the studio.  They opened up fast, and changed colors and shapes everyday.  The colors were stunning.  By the end of the week, they had faded and started loosing their petals.  I have several paintings from this bouquet, and hope to post them soon.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Peonies, Fruit and Fabric

Peonies, Fruit and Fabric
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This colorful still life is framed in a beautiful gold frame.  When I painted this, I was focusing on the light source and wanted to get the dramatic shadows painted in.  My favorite part of the painting is the fruit and the edges of the petals on the peonies.  I was letting my brush dance around, giving the petals a playful, loose look.  The apples were painted in simple strokes, with a wide bright brush.  This painting is available...contact Kay for more info.  Have a great day...KMW

Congratulations

Congratulations
8" x 8" x 2" Cradleboard
Contemporary Floral Still Life
I got into the studio yesterday and found a reference photo that I had taken years ago.  The occasion was daughter Lindsay's college graduation, and someone had sent her the most beautiful arrangement.  So I took the opportunity to paint the petals on a smooth cradleboard.  The paint slid all over the surface, but I kept on applying layers and layers of thick paint.  This one will take a long time to dry!  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay Wyne

Michigan Colors

Michigan Colors
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
I was urged to pick some fabulous peonies in the garden of a friend's cottage this summer while in Michigan.  The blooms were peaking.  I took Charlotte (cute 17 month old firecracker of a granddaughter) in a wagon, and cut a handful of stems.  I wanted to capture the brilliant colors and loose shapes of the peonies.  I had a great time painting them on the porch while looking at the lake.

This small painting made the trip back to Texas, and it is drying in the studio.  Contact ME for more info on this painting, or any of the paintings posted here.  Thanks for looking....Kay

I was painting away in the studio one day last week, when one of my studio mates bought me some peonies from Trader Joe's.  What a nice surprise.  They were stunning.  I had to paint them, and here's my results.  Below are a couple of photos of the set-up and the painting in progress.

Thanks for looking at my blog...if you are interested in this painting, or have any comments, please feel free to contact me.  This painting will be framed up after it dries.  Kay

Peonies, Please by Kay Wyne

Peonies, Please
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
"Peonies, Please" is now completed!  The beautiful white ceramic vase were provided by one of our studio mates, Robin, and the tablecloths were contributed by Sharon.  The vase alone was fun and pretty.  The arrangement of peonies were absolutely beautiful with stunning colors and beautifully shaped petals. I worked on this painting for a couple of days with the fresh flowers.  After getting called away from the studio, the flowers were long gone when I returned a couple of weeks later, so I worked from memory, and found a photograph to use as reference.

When glancing at the arrangement, at first glance the peonies were pink.  But if you really studied them, they were magenta, pink, red, coral and shades of white.  Every petal was different and interesting.  I used a #20 Bright Monarch on the whole painting....it was a birthday gift from Sharon, so I felt like I couldn't go wrong with such a great brush in hand!  This contemporary still life is very painterly...you can see the brush strokes if you get up close to the canvas.

This painting was a challenge between several artists, and it will be interesting to see what everyone created.  This painting is drying at the studio, and is available for purchase.  Contact ME for purchasing info.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Peonies, Fruit & Fabric

Peonies, Fruit & Fabric
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas
This still life is signed and now drying at the studio.
There were several challenges in this painting for me...
putting in the shadows, the hi lights on the fruit, and nailing
down the colors.  I loved the fullness of the peonies
and the large shadow that was cast in this still life.

Here is a close up - you can see the juicy
colors and brush strokes.
I used a #12 Filbert on most of the painting and
some new paints.  It is always fun to find
new materials to paint with.  Thanks for looking
at the art posted here.  Contact Kay Wyne for
purchasing information.  KMW
