I loved painting this canvas in the new studio with lots of natural light shining down on the easel.  I used brushes and palette knives to apply the thick juicy oils.  On the vase, I carved out the paint to make the pattern play.  I focused on mixing harmonious colors as I worked my way through this painting.  Adding shapes and lines as I progressed, it was so fun to paint.  Contact Kay for more info on her art!  Thanks for looking....Kay

The colors on my palette were left over from a floral painting...and I had mixed so much paint up that I started this abstract landscape. A big shout-out to Val, who took the photo that inspired me to paint this panel.  She was at White Rock Lake looking for the Bethlehem Star.  This photo is stunning...and I just had to paint it.  I started our with brushes, but decided that thick impasto would give it texture.  After laying out the painting, I took my palette knife to the piles of paint that I had mixed up.  This painting is drying in the studio.

Timeless is one of my favorite paintings...I liked it so much that I had it printed on my business cards.  The colors were mixed and mixed, and are very harmonious.  There is plenty of texture on the canvas...you can see the palette knife work, almost like frosting on a cake.  Let me know if you have any comments or questions concerning my art...I would love for Timeless to have a new home!  Kay

Contemporary Still Life Painting

My favorite canvas shape is the square, but I really like the canvas I picked for this horizontal still life.  The vase of flowers is intentionally off-center.  The bouquet fills the canvas and is spilling over the edges, implying that the bouquet is full and over-flowing.  I used the palette knife on most of this painting.  The canvas has plenty of texture and color.  I focused on lavenders and greens and greys and mixed piles and piles of oils when I painted this.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

Contemporary Landscape

Painted in the studio yesterday, with a palette knife.  Using lots of colors, I mixed impasto into the paints to give it heavy texture and help expedite the drying process.  Lots of movement and excitement when I pushed and pulled the paints.  I was painting freely, without boundaries and it felt so good!  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Kay
