High Drama

High Drama
Contemporary Abstract
24" x 24" Oil and Charcoal on Gallery Wrap Canvas
High Drama is a good example of experimentation.  I challenged myself to paint with a different color combinations than normal.  As I painted, I pushed and pulled the flowers, moving the paint.    I wanted the flowers to go in and out of focus, and loose some edges.  If you look closely, you can see I used charcoal to draw into the paint.  Thanks for looking at my art.  This painting is available for purchase.   Kay

These Days

These Days
Contemporary Abstract
Oil, Charcoal and Oil Bars on Canvas
Approximately 50" x 50" on Unstretched Canvas
These days I am into abstracts, starting with what I call a roadmap.  I draw, paint and then scrape away the oils, and do all again.  I mixed my colors and mixed more colors, and my piles of oil overlapped...so that they are harmonious. I did not plan anything, it all happened and the prussian blue lines/vase was put in at the very end...so now I have an abstract floral.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  KMW

Extravagant Ways

Extravagant Ways
Oil and Oil Stick on 40" x 40" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Floral
I love painting on large square canvases.  Extravagant Ways is a mixed media piece because I used charcoal, oils, and oil bars.  Using the willow charcoal stick, I scraped into the layered oil when it was wet.  I enjoyed experimenting with different color combos as I worked my way through the painting.  The asymmetrical design and irregular shapes gives the imagination a chance to go to work.  Contact Kay for more info on this original painting.  Thanks for looking!  KMW

Bad Day At The Lipstick Counter

Bad Day At The Lipstick Counter
Collaboration by Sharon Hodges and Kay Wyne
36" x 36" Mixed Media on Gallery Wrap Canvas

This canvas has been through a lot.  It started out with ink, acrylic and paper on canvas.  It was Kay's canvas for a couple of years, then Sharon picked it out of the "Bad Art Party" pile and worked on it.  I had given up on this canvas...but Sharon saw something interesting.  It is full of color, texture and interesting layers of shapes and lines-and very abstract.

The original plan was to paint an elephant.  The elephant turned into a large blooming iris that was very abstract.  Now there is a face with the rather large lips, jewelry, hands and different shapes painted on the textured surface.  So after the charcoal, ink, watercolor, acrylic, paper, oil, crayon, oil sticks this collaborative painting is completed.  You can see many things in the drawings.  It's quite amusing and fun to view.  It is drying in the studio.  It will be available for sale once the sides are painted and dry.  No frame needed.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Kay Wyne

18" x 18" Mixed Media on Birch Cradleboard
Contemporary Floral Still Life
I was not able to get a painting in yesterday...so I pulled something off the wall of the studio to post.  This is a colorful and abstract mixed media piece, with tissue paper, hand made papers, acrylic paint, and crayon.  I enjoyed putting this one together, and wanted the magenta, red and orange to bounce off the cradleboard.  I want the viewer to smile or feel happiness when looking at this piece.  This is Day # 20 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge!  I can't wait to get a full day of painting in at the studio.  I have a cow and rooster that is in progress...Maybe I will post one of them tomorrow.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  KMW
