Day # 19: Hydrangeas and Carnations

Hydrangeas and Carnations (Again)
Day #19 Strada Easel Challenge
Contemporary Still Life
12" x 16" Oil on Panel
I decided to paint the arrangement of hydrangeas and carnations again, on a larger format and different perspective.  The vase was a challenge, with all of it's texture and shadows.  Thanks for looking at my blog...a different subject matter for Day #20! Kay

Hydrangeas In Blue

Hydrangeas In Blue
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life
Day #4 Strada Easel Challenge
Here's my set-up (lighting looks bad, but it didn't photograph well).
Blue and white transferware is a favorite of mine, and hydrangeas from Trader Joe's is one of my favorite florals to paint.  So, I put a small still life arrangement together and was set for the afternoon!  You can bet that I will be painting these petals again this week.  Thanks for looking at my blog, Kay

Sunday's Bouquet

Sunday's Bouquet
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Yesterday we had a paint along in the studio.  I had a small bouquet of flowers from Grand baby Oliver's baptism on Sunday, thanks to the Oliver family. (O.K. I have to brag:  Cute Little Oliver is a doll...so cute, so smart and quick on his feet!) I put the flowers in a small vase and we painted for about 30 minutes, and here's the results.  I had leftover paint on my palette from earlier, and I squeezed out some fresh cad yellow--giving me just enough paint to cover this 12" x 12" canvas.  Here is a snap shot of the arrangement:
I am back in the studio today...If this floral arrangement is still fresh and colorful, I may paint it again!  Painting fresh flowers is one of my favorite subject matters.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact Kay Wyne for more info on this painting or any other paintings in my portfolio.  KMW

Half Pint - Sold

Half Pint
Sold
6" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This small panel was so much fun to paint...because of it's tiny size, I needed to make each brush stroke count.  My still life model was from Chris Heroy's lovely rose garden.  This was painted with the small mason jar sitting on the porch.  Thanks for looking at this blog....more florals are on the way.  Kay

On My Easel....

On My Easel....
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life
Today at the studio was good.  I had painted a still life of John's fresh-cut mini roses....they were beautiful with corals, oranges, pinkie pinks, and fresh green leaves.  I thought I had a good start, but scrapped it after looking at it today.  I started over, and this is where I am on the painting.  I am pushing the oils around on the panel.  Needs more darks, more lights, and a few minor adjustments. Thanks for looking at my blog...check in with me tomorrow for progress on this painting.  Thanks, Kay

Smell The Flowers

Smell The Flowers
8" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This little palette knife painting was inspired by a small bouquet of pink and coral flowers that are at the studio.  I simplified the bouquet, and grayed down the colors, and went abstract.  I started to use a brush to apply the paint, but this painting called for the palette knife.  The colors used are left over from yesterday's painting...I freeze my oils so they don't dry out...I have piles of corals, pinks and lavenders in the freezer, so I might have another painting with the same colors in the near future.  I am happy with the composition, paint application and the way it turned out.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

Today's Bouquet

Today's Bouquet
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Today's Bouquet was going to be a cow, but I wasn't in the mood for any animals.  I think I had the current exhibit of French Still-Life paintings at the Dallas Museum of Art on my mind.  I went to see it this week, so after looking at a show of that magnitude, it put me in the mood for a still-life in the studio.  I picked my color palette, but did not put any impasto out so I am sure that it will take a long time to dry.  After looking at for a few days I may need to put a few strokes.  I used my palette knife all the way, then dropped it on the floor and messed up the tip.  Good thing I have dozens of knives...more painting tomorrow.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Contact ME if you would like to purchase.  Kay
