Wrangler on my easel...

After a good session in the studio, I was able to lay this rodeo scene out on a 20" x 24" RayMar cotton panel.  I was encouraged by Renn Lawrence and Lee Small to use the photo that Renn took several years ago.  My intent is to get the background in and then paint that bull and cowboy with some painterly strokes and be finished with it.  My favorite part of this photo is the cowboy (or cowgirl) jeans peaking through the red planks.  I can't wait to get back into the studio to work on this....Thanks for reading my blog.  Kay

Rodeo Cowboy

Rodeo Cowboy
Sold
I was revisiting my reference photo for this painting yesterday. I really enjoyed painting this piece a couple of years ago. I may start another one on a large canvas for an exhibit. I have about a dozen paintings that need finishing touches, so I have plenty of work to do. I hope to post a new painting tomorrow and the progress on the landscape that I had demonstrated on Saturday. Thanks for viewing, Kay

Rodeo Cowboy

Rodeo Cowboy
I think this painting is finished....or at least I signed it. I wanted to show the energy, movement and colorful excitement of the rodeo in this painting. It is on a 24" x 24" gallery wrap canvas, painted in oils. At the very start of this painting, the horse was standing. I changed the angle of the horse, and decided that it would be more interesting to have it kicking off the canvas. And moving, not standing. I will go back to the studio tomorrow and probably make a few minor changes and photograph it again. I liked the fringed on the chaps and the mane on the horse....seemed to get all tangled up in the ride. I thank you for viewing my blog, and welcome any comments on my latest painting!
