Contemporary Oil Painting
Reference Photo Credit:  Renn Lawrence
Thanks to Renn Lawrence for sending me a fabulous rodeo photo he took in Ft. Worth.  He caught the action, strength and excitement of the rodeo through his lens, and my interpretation is painted on this panel.  This painting is drying in the studio, and will look great framed up!  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Cowboy Up

Cowboy Up
Contemporary Oil Painting
24" x 24" on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting was inspired from a photograph that I took of my nephew, Casey...taken about a month ago. He was getting ready to ride in a competition, and my camera caught him putting his chaps on. He need alot of help because they were very tight, and had to have two people working on those chaps. The rodeo arena was in the background, but I wanted it to be abstract and only a suggestion of the fence and the ground. I used oil sticks and oil paints with my wide brushes. I had alot of fun with this painting, and I might start a cowboy series. Thanks so much for viewing!

On the Easel....

I started this painting today...it is a 24" x 24" gallery wrap canvas. I started out with a titan buff background, then loose oil sticks for the image, and gradually painted in with oil paint using a wide brush. I plan on working on the background before I do any more work on the cowboy. I had alot of fun in front of the easel today...I can't wait to go back to the studio tommorrow.

Rodeo Cowboy

Rodeo Cowboy
I think this painting is finished....or at least I signed it. I wanted to show the energy, movement and colorful excitement of the rodeo in this painting. It is on a 24" x 24" gallery wrap canvas, painted in oils. At the very start of this painting, the horse was standing. I changed the angle of the horse, and decided that it would be more interesting to have it kicking off the canvas. And moving, not standing. I will go back to the studio tomorrow and probably make a few minor changes and photograph it again. I liked the fringed on the chaps and the mane on the horse....seemed to get all tangled up in the ride. I thank you for viewing my blog, and welcome any comments on my latest painting!
