Cowgirl Up

Cowgirl Up
8" x 8" Oil on Panel
Day #4 Strada Easel Challenge
Boots are courtesy of granddaughter Ruthie (age 2). She loves to wear her cowboy boots!  I painted these little boots in a couple of hours...this challenge is challenging me on my time management.  Here's my set-up in the studio.
Thanks for looking...Kay

Thanks to Renn Lawrence for sending me a fabulous rodeo photo he took in Ft. Time to Cowboy Up

Time to Cowboy Up
Oil on 48" x 24" Gallery Wrap Canvas
$900
I finally finished this contemporary cowboy...my motivation to complete it was our show last night at The Wine Therapist. So I went to the studio early yesterday and worked on him. I had four pieces hanging at the show, but there was some great wall space on the outdoor patio area, and this piece looks really good on the barn-looking wall. This painting has changed so much since I started it..... it has been through alot, just like a cowboy. My reference for Time to Cowboy Up was my nephew Casey Settles...trying to put his chaps on for a horse show. I wanted to do more with the fringe, but was afraid that I might over-paint it. I left the chaps with some wide brush strokes...did not want to paint it all in. Thanks to everyone who attend last night's reception. We had a huge turn-out and we sold some art! The performance by David Carr, Jr. was great. Thanks for viewing this blog!!! Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting. Kay@kwyne.com

Still on the easel....

Cowboy Up is still on the easel. It is almost finished. I put the belt buckle on, and need to work on skin tones for the hands and chin. I am going to the studio to finish this cowboy up! Thanks for viewing...

On my easel...

Cowboy Up is extremely wet. All I have to do is look at it and I get paint on myself. I had the knives and brushes working on this painting. Saturday I put the lettering on, worked on his hat and shirt. I thought the background was finished, but I need to put more light coming from behind his shoulder. The shirt, jeans, boots and chaps need some detail. Or at least a little implication of detail. I can't wait to put the fringe on the chaps...I just hope I don't get carried away with it and over paint. It is important to know when to stop painting. That is when it is good to step back from the painting and look at it. I can't wait to get into the studio today...Thank for viewing this blog. I hope to post more tommorrow....
