Large Untitled Floral

Untitled (I might need some help!)
36" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral
This canvas started out as a vertical abstract, and ended up as a horizontal floral.  Crazy things happen in front of the easel...and this canvas is proof!  Right now I am working on a title for it.  I am very please with the out-come of this palette knife painting.  Every color was mixed and mixed and mixed.  One of my studio mates came in while I was painting and asked what a specific color was on a flower petal....I honestly could not tell her how I got that color.  My palette was a mess, and every pile of paint was mixed up with another pile.  Contact ME with any questions or comments....Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Prickly Pear II by Kay Wyne

Prickly Pear II
16" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Cacti Painting
Here's the companion painting to Prickly Pear I.  Cactus is a new subject matter for me...and I love the way the grow, the layers of shapes, the shadows and of course those wicked needles.
The diptych size is 16" x 24", with the possibilities of framing the panels separately or together in one frame.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Both of these paintings are drying, but are available for purchase.  Contact Kay Wyne for more information.  Thanks, Kay

Fenced In
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This buffalo is colorful with wide brushstrokes. It is available for sale, and is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas. My inspiration for this painting was a photograph taken by Mark Malone...so I thank him for allowing me to paint my version of this creature. Thanks for viewing....I am trying to recover from the Artists of Texas Annual Membership Show/Artists Reception, held yesterday. It is always great meeting new artists from all over the state, and getting to see their art in person. Thanks, Kay

On my easel....

On my easel...I got a full day of painting in yesterday. Here is a 24" x 24" oil painting that I am doing for a donation for an auction. I hope to put finishing touches on it and get a better photograph. The paint is very thick and will take a long time to dry. I see a few things that I want to change on it. Thanks for viewing this blog....Have a good day! Kay

My Cowboy Model

Cowboy Up
Contemporary Oil Painting
24" x 24" on Gallery Wrap Canvas
NFS
Last weekend I was able to give my nephew, Casey Settles a painting that I had painted in March. He was at an Equestrian Competition and I took some reference photos of him getting dressed for his event. "Cowboy Up" was inspired by a moment that I caught on my camera...putting on his chaps. When Casey saw the painting in person, he loved it! That was a real joy for for me to see his reaction and I was thrilled to let him have the painting. Giving a painting that I created gives me as much joy as actually painting. I hope to start a new painting today at the studio, and have my canvas all ready. Thanks so much for viewing and have an artful day!

Fenced In

Fenced In
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I must admit that I don't see too many of buffalo in Dallas. My inspiration for this painting was a photograph taken by studio painting partner Mark Malone. Last summer Mark and John Martin were driving near Cimarron, north of Angel Fire, New Mexico. Mark said that there were three buffalo close to the fence----I liked this fellow who was standing behind the fence. Mark had painted this buffalo, grazing in the field, and graciously gave me the opportunity to paint this creature. My first day of painting was fun...I splashed on some color, positioned the head off-center on the canvas. Day two was even more fun because I really got the color going. But by day three and four, I was struggling with the snout on this guy. I guess I have painted too many cows, and he looked more like a cow than a buffalo. After a critique by Karen, Suzy and Carol at the studio, I believe that I have captured the features on his head. This contemporary painting is full of color, wide brush strokes. Fenced In is for sale. Please contact me if you are interested in this painting, and thanks for visiting this blog.

Red Rooster

Red Rooster
Oil on 24" x 24" Gallery Wrap Canvas
Wide brushstrokes, splashes of color, and thick paint are characteristics of this painting. This red rooster might be giving you the evil eye, he might be very angry, or he could be your everyday run of the mill rooster. I haven't named him yet, so until I figure that out, the title of this piece is Red Rooster. I signed him and I think he is finished. There are layers and layers of color and texture on the canvas. It will take along time for him to dry.

I started a new series yesterday, and can't wait to get back into the studio to work on my first piece. I am photographing it as it goes through changes....from start to finish. More on that painting later....Have a great day!
