I have completed this painting!  I have thought about a title for it, but nothing has really grabbed me.  The roses are full and weighty, with the background flowers of the arrangement loose and airy.  I used a wide flat brush for the most part, then switched to a filbert to paint in the lines and smaller shapes.  If you have a suggestion on the title, I welcome the input.  Thanks, Kay

Catching the sun coming through the window panes was my number one mission on this still life.  It was a challenge to get the still life set-up, then work on getting the colors mixed.  It took several afternoon sessions to get this right.  Painting the apples and flowers were easy, but seeing the light and mixing the right colors was not.  I learned so much from this painting, and when I view this painting, all the memories of the experience come back to me.  Thanks for looking at my art....Kay

Contemporary Seascape Painting

I was in the mood to paint a boat...and here's my small row boat.  I think it is complete...I will see what it looks like after letting it rest overnight.  The water has strokes of purples, greys, blues, corals and yellow.  I couldn't just paint the water one color.  I wanted to catch the reflection, the ripples and the movement in the water.  It was a fun little painting.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Kay

I just finished this painting in the studio yesterday.  I had started it months ago, and put it away for a while.  I was in the mood to put some finishing touches on it, sign it and photograph it.  I love the shape and color of the vase, and the variety of shapes and colors in the floral arrangement.  It's very abstract...it's obvious that I used a flat brush by the strokes of paint on the canvas.  I pulled the arrangement out of my head, using my imagination and had a good time painting this one, even though it took a while to complete the job!  I hope this painting makes you smile.  Thanks for looking at my art....Kay

My favorite canvas shape is the square, but I really like the canvas I picked for this horizontal still life.  The vase of flowers is intentionally off-center.  The bouquet fills the canvas and is spilling over the edges, implying that the bouquet is full and over-flowing.  I used the palette knife on most of this painting.  The canvas has plenty of texture color.  I focused on lavenders and greens and greys and mixed piles and piles of oils when I painted this.  This painting is for sale, and is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay
