Songbirds

Songbirds
36" x 12" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
The size of this canvas is perfect for birds perched up in a tree.  I painted this in a couple of hours, not sure how many birds would be sitting in the tree.  I started by toning the canvas, then drawing with willow charcoal stick, then with transparent orange and a filbert brush.  I brushed in pieces of color indicating the light peeking through the branches.  This canvas needs a frame...once it is dry I will take it to the frame shop and pick out a handsome moulding.  For now this painting needs to dry in the studio.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Songbird #4

Songbird #4
6" x 6" x 2" Oil on Cradleboard
Perched on a branch, this small bird is looking in the distance.  I painted the branches with a palette knife and the bird with a wide flat brush.  The sides of the cradleboard has clear varnish, so the natural woodgrain is what you see.  This small painting can be perched on a book shelf or hung on a wall.  Contact Kay for more information on this songbird painting.  Thanks for looking...KMW

Angry Magpie - NFS - by Kay Wyne

Angry Magpie
NFS
16" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
This is one of my son's favorite paintings...so I gifted it to him for Christmas. I think that this magpie has spunk and character.  Mixing my cool and warm greys was experimental and a good lesson on values.   The brush strokes are loose and deliberate giving this magpie a painterly look.  I was thrilled that Blake was very fond of this painting, as I will be able to see it knowing where it lives.

Our Christmas was very special with our youngest grandson coming home from the hospital on Christmas Eve.  Peter Thomas Henry is our Christmas miracle!

It's hard to get a photo of these busy little guys, as Oliver and Charlie are on the move most of the time.  I have had lots of family time lately, and very little studio time---I have a new series of paintings that I can't wait to work on!  Thanks for looking at this blog...Kay Wyne

Angry Magpie by Kay Wyne

Angry Magpie
16" x 8"  Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Today is the first day in a long time that I have been able to blog....due to technical difficulties.  Spending less time on the computer equals more painting time in the studio.  This is one of three magpie paintings that are drying at the studio.  This guy was fun to paint, as he is full of personality.  Painting with basic white and black paint allows me to explore color values.  This is day Day # 29 in the 30/30 Paint Challenge.  Thanks for looking at my magpie!  Contact Kay Wyne for more information on this painting.  Thanks, KMW
