Contemporary Oil Painting

Shea was our third lab, and a great dog.  She was always fetching a tennis ball.  I used bold brush strokes on the canvas, and kept the painting loose.  This painting is one of my favorites because I captured Shea's personality.  I probably need to do another pet portrait of Penny Lane and Gurl.  Even though they don't get along.  Happy day after Thanksgiving...we will be putting the Christmas tree up!  Contact Kay for more information on my animal paintings.  Kay

I thought I was finished with this painting, but now that I look at it on my computer, I may need to go back in and add more color.  The paint is very thick and chunky.  I used impasto so that I could have lots of texture and it would dry quickly.  I will post tomorrow any changes that I make on it in the studio.  Thanks for looking.....Contact ME for more information on this painting.  Kay

Four Square is a large square canvas, with four rooster images painted with wide brush strokes.  Each rooster is painted differently, as if they have their own personality and individuality.  The close-up image below shows that there is an abstract quality to the images of these fun roosters.  I amped up the color, and exaggerated the features on the fine feathered creatures.

Here is a closer look at the rooster in the top right corner of the painting.  As you can see, there are layers of paint, ink and oil sticks on the canvas.  Since this is on a gallery wrap canvas, a frame is optional.  This contemporary rooster painting is looking for a new home...contact Kay if you are interested in this painting.  Thanks, Kay

Empty Nest Waiting is framed up and hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  I used a wide brush and my palette knife to create this contemporary nest painting. You can see the wide brushstrokes in the background...I didn't get fussy with it.  I painted it, and left the paint so that the brush strokes were visible.  The sticks and twigs of the nest are thick and textured.  Thanks for looking at this blog.....Kay

BJ was the highest bidder at the live auction this past weekend in Grapevine, Texas.  I attended the 40th Annual Holiday Charity Event at Austin Ranch, Hilton DFW Lakes.  The Women's Division of The Grapevine CHamber of Commerce put on a great event to raise money for underprivileged students and senior citizens.  I took this pic of BJ and the finished painting that I painted during the dinner and dancing.  It was fun, it was for a good cause, and I met some fabulous people.  Thanks for looking at my blog....Kay

This painting was inspired by a trip to White Rock Lake, located in Dallas, Texas.  It is a great place to walk, run, bike, sail, kayak, or just hang out and and enjoy the lake.
