This abstract went through many of changes before it was completed. When I started it, I was using a totally different color scheme and did not know I was going in this direction. I applied layers and layers of color...there is alot of movement and depth in this abstract. I used both the brush and palette knife on this one. Lines, shapes, color and texture...it is all on this canvas. I really like this size canvas...it hangs well above a piece of furnture or tilted up against the wall, sitting on a table or cabinet. This painting is sitting on my easel...I want to take a few days to look at it, and maybe make some small changes.  I wanted the viewer's eye to look at the colorful wildflowers in the foreground, and then the eye to wander through the canvas to the background.  The aspens have some texture on them....indicating knobby knots and bark.  The leaves are thick strokes of paint....all with the brush.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  Kay

I was using one of Don's fabulous paintings as a reference point....and really

working on my colors.  Don has a wonderful sense of color as 

his painting, "Early Summer Color, Shrine Pass".  I was able to focus 

on the color green, which is a challenge for me.

This painting is so wet with juicy oils...I started with

my flat brush, but could not wait to get the palette knives

out to move the paint around.  I am happy with the colors,

the composition and look of this little painting.  I borrowed
some beautiful colors that she had mixed on her palette,
and they were going to dry up if I didn't dive into them.

I think I am finished with this painting.  It is sitting on my easel, and I will take a few days to step away from it and see if I need make any adjustments.  This beauty was over at the Ft. Worth Stock Show in February this year, and I decided to put him out in a field on my canvas.  I may need to re-take the photo, as the colors don't look as true in the photo as they do standing in front of the canvas.

Here is my reference photo...I thought he was beautiful standing there in the barn, getting ready to be shown. His coat was clean and blown-dry.  I think he traveled from Illinois to Ft. Worth for the stock show.  Below is a a close-up of the eye.
