Sun Filled Day

Sun Filled Day
24" x 20" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
After visiting artist Don Sahli last weekend while in Wimberly, Texas I was admiring his work in the Pitzer's Fine Art Gallery.  His studio and plein air work is amazing!  Don was doing a demonstration in the gallery courtyard with a full audience.  I have taken workshops from Don on a couple of occasions, and learned so much as he is a very talented teacher and artist.  This is one of the challenging still life paintings I painted from his Evergreen, Colorado school of art.  Going back and reviewing previous work refreshes my memory and reinforces some of the techniques I experienced and learned.  Thanks for looking at my art....Kay

Colorado Landscape Study

Colorado Landscape Study-NFS
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas Board
Workshop Painting
This painting is piece that I was working on in a Don Sahli workshop.
I was using one of Don's fabulous paintings as a reference point....and really
working on my colors.  Don has a wonderful sense of color as
his painting, "Early Summer Color, Shrine Pass".  I was able to focus
on the color green, which is a challenge for me.

Studio Still Life

Studio Still Life
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas Panel
Here is another still life from the Don Sahli workshop.  Reflections, shadows, lights, darks, and nailing the correct color made this still life a challenge.  I painted this panel with a #12 Filbert from start to finish.  Thanks for looking at this blog.....Kay

Studio Still Life

Studio Still Life
24" x 30" Oil on Canvas Panel
This study was one of Don Sahli's set-up at last week's workshop.  Don always takes time in arranging an interesting still life.  My favorite part of this painting is the dishcloth...it is old and I love the variation in the stripes.  More posts from his workshop tomorrow.....Kay

Cottage Still Life by Kay Wyne

Cottage Still Life
20" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Framed in a Dark Mahogany Moulding
This painting was painted in Colorado at a Don Sahli workshop.  It was an interesting arrangement...and because of the subject matter, it reminded John and I of the cottage in Michigan.  I loved the enamel pitcher, fruit, antique platter and dish towel it felt like I was pulling things from the cottage for the still life.  The light was bouncing off the ceramic jar and the the fruit.  The oils will take a long time to dry, since I used very little medium with the oils.  Thanks for looking at the art posted here....contact Kay if you have any questions or comments on the art posted here....thanks, Kay

Fiesta & Fruit

Fiesta & Fruit
20" x 24" Oil on Canvas
This is a still life that I painted outside...the set-up was in Don Sahli's yard at his Art School in Evergreen, Colorado.  Don set up several still life arrangements and because we were outside, the light and shadows changed the composition.  So I had to paint fast.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting or any of the art posted on this blog.  Thanks, Kay

Early Shadows

Early Shadows
20" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Plein Air Painting
This is a workshop painting that I did in Colorado this summer.  It was hard to catch the morning shadows and the light hitting this old barn.  The barn was situated next door to Don Sahli School of Art so I set my easel  up two days in the early morning.  It was amazing how the shadows moved over the barn.  It was a great exercise in looking, looking, looking and then putting the paint on the canvas and doing it quickly.  Thanks for looking at this blog....
Have an artful day!  KMW

On my easel.....

Still Life in progress...

Peonies, Fruit and Fabric
This is a 24" x 30" canvas.
Almost complete...worked on it again today.

Here are a couple of pics of a still life in progress.
The set-up took alot of time and thought....
great color, texture, light, shadows and composition.
Don Sahli and Sharon Hodges spent quite a bit of
time setting upset it up this arrangement. Once
Sharon started painting it, I decided
I had to get in on the fun.  Don has a
great collection of beautiful fabrics, pottery and
antiques to choose from when setting up a still
life for a painting...whether it is indoors or outdoors.
I quickly blocked in the abstract shapes and started
on the colors.

After several hours, I am getting the colors, shadows,
light and shapes on the canvas.  I have more to do today,
and can't wait to put more thick paint on.  More
photos tomorrow....Thanks for looking
at my art and the paintings posted here
on this blog.  Kay

I am going back for more tomorrow.....

And here is an elk looking at me....OMG!

Here are our horses here at the working ranch....
Sharon and I are taking it all in.
