Follow Me

Follow Me
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Floral Landscape
I am taking this painting off the easel for now...I signed it, but need to live with it and think about it...I am not sure if it is finished.  It might be that I am finished painting on it for now.  I used a palette knife on this panel...all the way.  Lots of texture and built-up paint.

I started with a rather simple landscape, and wanted the path to fade into the distance.  The wildflowers are scattered throughout the field, and at some points over-lap into the pathway.  I would hope that the viewer can get lost in this painting, enjoying the "unknown" in this painting.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Shea Baby

Shea Baby
24" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
I was looking at this painting, remembering Shea and what a great dog she was.  I really enjoyed painting this one.  I used wide brushes, plenty of paint, and wanted to get her full of life personality on the canvas.  Currently we have three grand-doggies and I might need to paint one of them.  When the dogs are so active, it is necessary to work off of photographs.  So putting a few photograph sessions is on my to-do list.  Contact Kay Wyne with any questions or comments on this color and fun painting.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Flutter

Flutter
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Thanks to friend Mark Malone, I was able to paint from a beautiful photograph that he had taken of a red dragonfly.  I thought it was a neat shot with vivid colors.  This abstract painting has lots of texture...I used heavy impasto to build up the oils.  The sides of the canvas are painted, so it is ready to hang.  Contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  It is hanging at the studio and would love to have a new home!  Thanks for looking...Kay

Springtime Colors - Sold

Springtime Colors
Sold by Bill Hester Fine Art, Santa Fe, New Mexico
22" x 28" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Thank you to Bill Hester for selling this contemporary floral landscape painting.  The thick layers of paint created texture on the canvas.  The field of poppies flows into the background of the field...fading away into the horizon line.  I am thrilled that this painting has a new home!  Thanks, Bill.

Jar of Petals

Jar of Petals
10" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Oil Painting
My color palette is very vibrant in this painting....which I just completed in the studio.  It is too hot to paint outside in Texas under the hot July sun.  I had fun with this one....I wanted all of the flowers to sing with color.  Here is a pic of my palette that I was working from.
There is more brushwork than palette knife on this panel.  I wanted my colors to be bright, vivid and intense.  This painting will be drying in the studio, then I will frame.  Contact ME if you have any comments or have an interest in purchasing.  Thanks for looking....Kay Wyne

Flamboyant Feathers

Flamboyant Feathers
10" x 10" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Series
This rooster was so much fun to paint, with almost every color on my palette on the canvas...I kept the lines disjointed, loose, all with different size brushes.  I started with a dark background (my new thing) which makes the foreground pop.  Flamboyant Feathers is for sale....contact KAY for more info on this guy.  Framing is optional...he looks good as is, and ready to hang on a wall.  Thanks for looking, Kay

Color of Summer

Color of Summer
10" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Pushing, pulling, scraping and laying in the oils with my palette knife gives this painting an impressionistic feeling.  I started with an underpainting using a brush.  After looking at it for a couple of months on my easel, I decided I needed to take a different approach and repainted it with the knife.  I am much more satisfied with the outcome, especially with the color relationships.  The burnt orange contrasting against the violet and greens makes it pop. The colors of the landscape remind me of how a hot and dry summer day feels....therefore, the name, "Color of Summer".  I can't wait to put a frame on this panel once I varnish it.  This painting will be for sale once it dries.  Contact ME for purchasing info.  Thanks, Kay

Anyway The Wind Blows
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Landscape
My color palette with just about every color in the book....lots of violets, reds, greens, ochres, turquoise, raspberry ....it is all in there.  I can imagine standing in a large open field with the wind blowing, and seeing so many colors, with them fading off into the horizon.  Every blade of tall grass is a different  in color, giving this painting a fresh contemporary feel.  I would hope that the viewer would look at this painting and be able to feel the wind whipping around.  This painting is ready to hang...with or without a frame.   Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Kay

Color study in the yard...I was working on nailing the colors down.  After I put in some color, I got my palette knife out.  Lots of texture on the flowers.  My inspiration was the rock garden in the backyard of the Heroy Cottage.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Kay

Perfect Day

Perfect Day
Sold
8" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This is one of favorite still life paintings...I was painting the floral arrangement on an old wicker table.  The short and squatty jar was a great transparent blue color.  Once again, I used Chris Heroy's fresh cut roses.  They were absolutely beautiful.  The oils on this panel will take months to dry....I went heavy on the oils.  Thanks for looking...Kay

Half Pint
Sold
6" x 6" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This small panel was so much fun to paint...because of it's tiny size, I needed to make each brush stroke count.  My still life model was from Chris Heroy's lovely rose garden.  This was painted with the small mason jar sitting on the porch.  Thanks for looking at this blog....more florals are on the way.  Kay

From The Porch

From The Porch
6" x 8" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Michigan Landscape Painting
I set my easel up on the front porch at the cottage in Michigan, overlooking Lake Charlevoix.  The Heroy's boat, Hemingway Point and some buoys are scattered in the water.  The color of the water changed on me because the sky was filled with clouds, with the sun popping in and out.  Contact Kay Wyne for more info on this painting.  Thanks for looking....more Michigan paintings coming!  Kay

Homegrown
Sold
8" x 10" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Floral Still Life Painting
Northern Michigan is beautiful in the summertime, and we just returned from a Charlevoix ten day family vacation. I took my easel, shipped my paints and had a grand time painting the landscape.Kay  The first day I arrived I found the most beautiful garden in the backyard of Chris Heroy's cottage.  I immediately went to visit her and get permission to set up in her yard.  Chris gave me a tour and snipped off some lovely homegrown roses and put in a beautiful antique glass jar. Here is a pic of Chris' roses.  Thank you to Gilda for purchasing "Homegrown"...this painting will have a new home in Little Rock, Arkansas!  Thanks for looking at this blog...more Michigan paintings are coming!  Contact Kay for more info on my art.  KMW

Enchanting

Enchanting
36" x 36" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Floral Landscape
Enchanting is one of those paintings that went through many stages.  I used a large, heavy duty gallery wrap canvas, therefore the sides of the canvas (about 2 1/2") are also painted.  In my mind, I separated the painting in three parts:  sky/background, mid-ground, and foreground.  All three areas of the canvas had to be different sizes...I didn't want three equal parts.  I wanted the horizon to melt into the sky and recede.  The mid-ground needed to have someone color, but not as much as the foreground.  I used the palette knife and impasto on the florals to create texture and interest.  Enchanting is ready to hang, with framing as an option.  This painting is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, TX.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Kay

Best of the Bunch by Kay Wyne

Best of the Bunch
Contemporary Floral Still Life Painting
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
18 1/2" x 18 1/2" Total Frame Size
I finished this painting at the studio, and popped it in this beautiful frame.  It is a seamless (no mitered corners) and is slightly distressed with a satin finish.  There are so many shades of corals, pinks, greys and greens in this painting.  I used a flat brush to apply the oils.  Contact Kay Wyne for purchasing information.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay
