Isn't Life Peachy?

Isn't Life Peachy?
24" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This is my third peachy painting.  My inspiration for this came from one of my collector's backyard. --- Thank you Emily!  I wanted to create depth and did that layering the colors.  When I look up into the tree I see pieces of light, shadows and overlapping leaves, branches and peaches.  I want the viewer to imagine standing on the ground, looking up at a full branch loaded with beautiful peaches.  At the end of the painting, I decided to add charcoal drawing on top of the brush strokes.  This painting is drying in the studio, and will be framed up!  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my art.  KMW

P.S.  Here is a pic of this painting framed up!

Pleasant Surprise

Pleasant Surprise
37 1/4" x 28 1/4" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting

One of my collectors bought a house in Dallas recently, and she did not know that she had a fruit-bearing peach tree in her backyard....until the tree was producing peaches.  Emily loves her house, and the fruit on the tree was a pleasant surprise for her!  I snapped some photos of the backyard tree, and decided to paint the beautiful fruits once I got into the studio.  This was a fun painting for me because of the color palette.  I loved mixing the corals, reds, apricots, ochres and leafy greens.  The violets, greys and savanah browns were fun to mix up. Thank you, Emily for letting me photograph your tree!   This painting is drying in the studio.  I couldn't wait to see what it looked like all framed up!

Here it is framed up in a gold leaf frame with linen liner.
The over-all size of frame is 45 1/4' x 35 1/2"

Rise & Shine by Kay Wyne

Rise & Shine
48" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Cacti Series
Lots of Prickly Pears, blooms, and needles cover the canvas.  I started with tinting the canvas with transparent yellow oxide.  Here are a few pics of the painting along the way.
I drew some shapes in with charcoal, and immediately started putting the background in.  I used violets, blues and diox.
The shapes are very rough and abstract, and here I flipped the canvas upside down to work on it.  Several times during the painting process I will turn the canvas on it's side or upside down.
I put several layers of color in, working on getting my values.  I need to get my darkest darks in right away...or I will never get them in.  I was careful to use transparent oils and medium in the beginning stages of the painting
I continue to layer the paint, using a big wide brush and palette knife.  I did pull out a small filbert and put some lines in the add interest and shapes.  I also started putting some spiney  edges and blotches on the pads.
I deleted some of the flowers and in the end, put in the flower that is the focal point of the painting.  I put some flowering petals in with some opaque cool colors, then a few with warm golden shades.  That makes it pop!  The last step in the painting is to put in the needles...that was so much fun, but once I put them in I could to go back into the painting and change anything or it would become muddy.   Rise & Shine is drying at the studio, and will get a coat of varnish---and then it will be available for purchase.  Contact Kay Wyne for more information on this colorful and dynamic painting!  KMW

The Race Is On by Kay Wyne

The Race Is On
24" x 36" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Oil Painting
This colorful painting has a very geometrical and simple background, so that the eye goes straight to the jockey sitting on the race horse.  The brushstrokes are bold and loose.  I wanted to capture the strength and speed of the horse on canvas.  This painting is ready to hang, no frame needed.  Contact ME for purchasing information.  Thanks for looking at this blog......Kay

Peaceful

Peaceful
Contemporary Landscape Painting
12" x 16" Oil on Canvas
This painting went through some difficult stages before I decided it was complete.  Actually, the canvas was larger, and I cut the canvas down after I had finished painting.  I normally don't do that, but I felt that the composition worked better without so much canvas.  I believe it was originally an 18" x 18".  I used a palette knife all the way on this one...there is texture and depth in the landscape.  The skies are soft and whispy.

This painting is back from the framers and is ready to hang...

Missed The Boat

Missed The Boat
12" x 12" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
Contemporary Oil Painting
I loved painting this one, especially since I was able to get the palette knife out and create some texture on the rocks and water.  This dinghy was tied up in a small fishing town in along the rocky coast of Maine.  On a recent trip there, John and I found lots of beautiful seaside towns that will give me inspiration for more paintings.  I was in the studio all day yesterday, and painted some boats from start to finish.  I hope to photograph today and post on tomorrow's blog.  Thanks for looking at the art posted here.  Stay cool.  kay@kwyne.com  ---   Kay

Horizon Series: Abstract #23

Horizon Series: Abstract #23
20" x 20" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting has deep rich colors, layers and layers of texture. It is on a gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is needed. Ready to hang. I made it to the studio yesterday, via DART. I thought I would try something different and ride the rail downtown. It was fun, and I was able to take in the scenery of Dallas...something that is hard to do when you are driving around town. I worked on some new paintings, and varnished about a dozen....this was one of them. Thanks for looking at my blog...have a great day! Kay 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com

Penny Lane

Penny Lane
This doggie painting is very whimsical...and playful. Just like the subject matter, Penny Lane. I thought I would post this painting since I am babysitting Penny for our son, Blake. She is full of energy, always happy, eager to fetch a tennis ball...really fun to have around the house. I painted this last year for Blake....I know he misses Penny alot, but she is loving all the attention John and I give her. Thanks for viewing my blog...I had a great day at the studio yesterday, and have four paintings in the works. I hope you have an artful and creative day!
