Here's my first try at painting on paper...it was different-----I usually paint on linen, canvas or panels.  I left a one and half inch white border from the edge of the deckled paper to the artwork.  I missed the texture of canvas, but experimented with oils, charcoal and oil bars.  More works on paper to come.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Contemporary City Scape

Inspired by a plein air experience at White Rock Lake, I decided that I would go with a large canvas --- 36" x 48" in the studio. The subject matter was the same, with the Dallas skyline in the background, White Rock Lake and the tall grass on the hill in the foreground. Wide brushstrokes and palette knife work were used to create this cityscape. Currently hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas...contact the gallery or Kay Wyne for more info. Contemporary Landscape

Tranquil is a quiet and peaceful painting.  The colors are soft and pleasing to the eye, mixed up, all harmonious to each other.  I used a large palette knife to apply the paint, and a rubber clay tool to cut into the paint.  There is a lot of texture on the canvas because I used impasto with the oils...it's hard not to touch it because of the mounds of paint!  The sides of the canvas are painted a Portland Grey, so it is ready to hang.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking....KMW

I was into mixing and mixing colors on my palette, and realized that my piles of beautiful oils were getting bigger and bigger...so I started laying on the paint with the knife, cutting into the paint to make my mark.  The paint is chunky and thick.  There was a still life painting started on this canvas, so when I cut through the paint, the underpainting does show through in bits and pieces.  This landscape is drying in the studio.  It is ready to hang, with the sides of the gallery wrap canvas painted a deep grey.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Contact Kay with any questions or comments.

I had mixed piles and piles of beautiful colors for a previous canvas, and when I completed the painting I decided that I needed to use the paint up.  I grabbed a toned canvas and started putting in the sky and the field.  It all fell into place.  All the colors are harmonious because they are mixed---nothing straight out of the tube.  I did use some impasto, so texture is a big part of this painting.  I have a great frame for it, and it will bee handsome framed up!  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at my blog. Contemporary Abstract

This large canvas went through a lot of changes over the past week...Layers of drawings, brushwork and scraping finally got me to the place where I felt like this abstract was finished. It's drying in the studio, with the sides of the canvas painted a dark vulcan grey.  (Framing is optional....it's wired, and ready to hang!)  The spice of turquoise offsets the muted pinks, whites and greys.  When you look up close you can see drawings in charcoal that come and go.  I named this abstract Cotton Candy because it of the shades of pink...and it was so much fun to create!  Thanks for looking at my blog..Kay

It was great going to the studio today...I told John that

I was going to paint "just for the heck of it!"

Here's what my canvas started out like:

After pushing and pulling the paint, applying it with a brush and palette knife, I completed the painting.  It will take a while for the layers to dry.  I am pretty sure that I am finished, but I might make some minor changes after living with it.  Thanks for looking at my blog...Kay

Here's another small abstract to go with painting that I posted yesterday, Pink Vase.  Seafoam green, ice blue, coral, dianthus pink, magenta and cream with a hint of neutral grey are the colors I used.
